Kyle rummaged through the kitchen in the house but he couldn't quite figure out he was looking for. His cousin wasn't home, so he basically had free run of the house, he kicked the fridge closed and he looked around the kitchen one more time, he wasn't exactly hungry but he still wanted to eat food. "Ah well" he muttered as he turned the lights out and walked out the front door. He looked around and saw Jason's brown gelding on the other side of the field and his own cremello mare not to far away grazing. Sometimes people would think that Kyle was mooching off of his cousin, but he wasn't. He wasn't taking his cousin's money or anything like that, he just sorta kinda lived in the same house as his cousin, he cleaned up after himself, so he couldn't have been that much of a problem...right? He looked around one more time and then sighed, there was almost a lazy tone in his sigh. He decided that maybe he should take a walk around the field, at least it would give him something to do. He slowly walked gates of the field and then he started to follow the gates down, he didn't feel like going anywhere today, so this would have to do.

Rowan was quite enjoying the spring weather, even if Ginger was out of commission for a little while because of her fetlock. Usually she would be on a ride by now, but as it were the spring rains had prevented her from getting Sherlock out on a nice long walk, and even though he minded this not at all she felt bad for him. The Basset Hound was rolling along amiably at her side, snuffling through the grass and occasionally slipping in the dew or stepping on his own ear. Rowan was doing her best to keep a straight face as he trotted along on his short legs, but really his bemused expression was enough to cheer anyone up, and he really was such a good dog. She was staring off dreamily at little finches that flew away at the sound of footsteps and looking off into the fields, dotted here and there with fat and shining ponies.
She had just got around to looking at said ponies when she spotted a familiar brown coat among them. Her face registered only mild surprise that Cal was out in one of these fields, he looked so natural out there. She didn't recognize the other horse in the pasture, nor the person out taking a walk in it, though he resembled Jason. "Why, hello there, Cal!" she called over the field, now looking over the board fence and pulling to a halt. Sherlock snuffled around in the grass at her feel.

The brown gelding threw up his head as he heard a familar voice calling his name. The cremello mare along side threw up her head as well realizing that something had caught the gelding's attention. Cal trotted over to fenceline with the mare following right behind him, the gelding stopped and looked at Rowan then nickered to her excitedly.
Kyle walked the fenceline for a few more moments then he saw that the horses had found something interesting on the other side of the fence, he continued walking and then he noticed that what had caught Cal's attention was a girl on the other side of the fence. Kyle couldn't quite tell what it was, seeing as the sun was in his eye, but her probably didn't know her anyway. However he called out anyway "I see the grass is actually greener on the other side!" He noticed that his own mare had come to investigate what had caught Cal's interest. He wished he could find and notice things like those horses did maybe he wouldn't be as bored if he could.

Rowan grinned as Cal trotted up to the fence, followed by a pretty cremello mare she hadn't seen before. She chuckled brightly at Kyle's comment. "Oh, hi," she said, grinning as she patted Cal's nose happily. Sherlock snuffled at the horses curiously for a few seconds, then went back to rooting around in the grass, his ears dragging in the dew. "My name's Rowan Steele... You wouldn't happen to be Jason's... uh... brother? ... would you?" She said cheerily, pausing for a moment to look him over. He didn't look a lot like Jason, after all, but she supposed they could be brothers, and she figured it was a good enough guess if she had to guess at all. She patted the mare on the neck softly, letting her fingers run over the creamy coat as she admired with pretty horses.
"Oh, yeah, this is Sherlock," she said, gesturing downwards at the dog, who lifted his eyes and gave Kyle a baleful glance, sniffing at the air before losing interest and lumbering off to the side, head down in the grass and sniffing, wrapping the leash around Rowan's legs and tripping over his own ear as he went.

"It's very nice to meet you Rowan" Kyle smiled excitedly when Rowan asked if he was Jason's brother. "I'm sorry to inform you, but I am not his brother. I am his better looking cousin " he replied almost a little too happily. He looked at the dog that Rowan had named by Sherlock "And its nice to meet you too Sherlock"
Cal stayed near the fence and he snorted impatiently as the cremello mare, Karla inspected Rowan with a sudden intrest that had went away as soon as it had come. The mare walked a little ways away from the fence to graze, acting as if she had never ventured to fence at all. Cal eyed the mare then focused his attention back on Rowan

Rowan laughed again as Kyle spoke, finding this cousin quite amusing. "I apologize, then," she said, holding out a hand to shake, "and am I allowed to know this very good looking cousin's name?" She said it with a little more than a shade of sarcasm, grinning broadly now. Sherlock looked up at the sound of his name, tongue lolling out comically, then went back about the business of tripping on his own ears.
"Oh, alright, you big ham," she said to Cal, going back to patting the gelding's nose and scratching around the base of his ears and neck with her free hand, smiling as she did so. "You were a lot of help the other day, old boy. And Ginger's going to be right as rain in a few weeks." She turned to Kyle with a good-natured smile, "Your cousin helped me out of a spot of trouble earlier this week," she explained hastily.

Kyle smiled again, he couldn't find it himself to stop smiling apparently, mainly because he was just so gosh darn happy all of a sudden. He reached out and shook Rowan's hand "Apology gladly accepted. The names Kyle Joe. Just call me Kyle" He said soonafter he let go of Rowan's hand. He listened as Rowan informed him of Jason's good deeds "Sound just like Jason. Always running off to help people" He thought about something for a moment then crossed his arms "But its none of my business how he spends his days" Hi smile had faltered a bit as he was lost in thought.
Cal shook his head and walked away soon after, he too had lost intrest, his owner's 'relative' didn't interest him as much as Rowan did anyway. He soon trotted off to the other end of the field, the mare right on his heels as always

Rowan, too, was finding it hard to stop smiling as she let go of Kyle's hand and leaned over to untangle herself from Sherlock's leash. There was something about Kyle's kindly face and manner that she found instantly likable, and was finding it very easy to talk to him, which was fairly unusual for her. She peered over his shoulder for a moment intently, watching as a pair of frivolous, extremely colorful, finches darted off, skimming the tops of the grass as they chased one another hither and thither across the hay, no doubt watched intently by some dowdy gray female. Then she met his eye again as she came back down to Earth.
"Well, of course it's not," she said, afraid that she had offended him somehow with the mention of his cousin. After all, she hadn't meant to make him feel inferior or anything, just to explain how come she'd stopped at the fence in the first place. Hastening to change the subject, she piped up (rather uninspiredly), "Is that your horse?" looking at the cremello, "She's really pretty!"

Kyle smiled again as Rowan mentioned the mare in the field. "Yeah, thats my girl. Her name is Karla" He looked at the mare as she trotted off "She has a bit of attitude problem if you haven't noticed yet" He said winking at her. He uncrossed his arms and watched the horses trot for a little longer and then stop to graze a good distance away from where he was standing. It seemed as if they had suddenly lost interest in the conversation was being held over in this direction. It didn't bother Kyle though, to be more specific, nothing bothered him, he was oblivious to anything and everything negative.

"That sweet thing? No way!" Rowan quipped, but she was really just joshing. She was leaning against the fence now, locks of curly hair falling around the points of her ears, squinting her eyes in the glare of the sunlight on her glasses. She sighed happily at the warmth and the blue sky with its darting, feathery clouds. "It must be nice to live out here in the country," she remarked, eying the field and how it reflected the light. She had lived always safe in the confines of the suburbs, not the quiet, murmuring country or the rolling, flashy city. She pitied herself for having lived so mundanely, having wasted a breath that could have shaken the clover, but then only for a moment. Out here, where the grass seemed never to end and the skyline was only obscured by the distant hills, she felt remarkably small, insignificant.

He looked back at Rowan on the other side of the fence "So, what brings you to this side of town?" He said smiling once again, he was eager to get to know people, since he really didn't know many people in this town but then again maybe he just loved talking, yeah it was probably that he loved talking and meeting new people, new faces and everything in between. "Living in the country has its pros and cons" he said smiling "It's easy to have livestock and such out here but there are no people to talk to! I can't sit around here trying to talk to horses like my poor cousin can" His words seemed a bit distraught but as always he was a bit happy about what he had just said. Where was he going with this conversation anyway? Perhaps he was just throwing out random things left and right to just get a conversation going.

Rowan shrugged, "I don't live all that far from here, actually. Sherlock here needed a nice long walk, in any case, and its quite nice out here. Even if it's a little lonely," she explained, looking down at Sherlock for a moment. He was sitting at her heel and scratching his long ear with a hind leg lazily. He snuffled as he noticed Rowan watching him, sitting dolefully to attention. She laughed, "Well, I'll talk to you then. What brings you to this part of the country? Are you from Texas, too?" she queried, more for the sake of asking than for any other reason. She didn't exactly know where the conversation was going, either, she was just following it like a fish will a bright bauble. Then again, those fish often end up in the mouth of an archer. Rowan frowned, distractedly, thinking about this, and decided she ought to lead the conversation than let it lead her, which she was not very good at. "So. Are you attending the masquerade later this week?" she asked, out of the blue.

Kyle thought for a few moments "Well actually, I tell most people that I was born in Texas, but the truth is I was born in Australia and moved to Texas when I was little" he said smiling at Sherlock's actions
He looked puzzled for a few moments at Rowan's questions. "The masquerade?" He crossed his arms for a few moments as he thought about it then he smiled again "I would go, but I don't have anyone to go with. Actually I haven't really thought about it"

"An ozzie, eh?" said Rowan, mangling an Australian accent so badly that it sounded Canadian. She looked a little more than chagrined at this fact, a flush of pink coloring the bridge of her freckled nose. "I almost went to college there, you know. I got accepted into Elon, but it's really far away, and besides I don't like snow." She said, a little dreamily, her eyes unfocused and looking more off Kyle's shoulder than at him.
She laughed at his next statement. "Well, that's half the point, isn't it?" she chuckled, "You're not supposed to know who else is there, right? It's a masquerade, after all. So, masks? Although I think they're not all too effective at hiding anyone's identity."

Kyle smiled at Rowan's attempt to sound Australian although it sounded more like Canadian above all else
Kyle shook his head and smiled about the subject of the masquerade "Yeah, you can pretty much tell who everyone is, unless they wear a full bodied costume" He laughed again and then he just realized something "You know, you can always come to the other side of the fence." He said suddenly with another laugh
