Jason drove slowly down the long country road, the sun beamed through the windshield and blinded his eye a little. He hadn't said a single thing since he left Java Joe's and he wasn't intending to say anything during this entire little "road trip" He slowly put his shades on, satisfied that now he could see through the bright sunlight. He always drove slow down this road, but he never expected to have a passenger to witness his 35 mph driving. He really wasn't in a hurry today as he continued to drive down the lonely dirt road.

"So where is it that you live?" Estelle asked politely. The road she had come into the town on, and the road her almost-home was on, was on the other side of town. She hadn't yet been this way, so she didn't know the area. She also wasn't liking the awkward silence. It was starting to get frustrated. She had an awful anger problem, so getting her frustrated was never a good thing to do. Things usually ended up.. bad. For her, anyway.
"Are we going to be silent for this whole journey?" she said, in a less-than-polite tone this time. "It's just that usually people drive a bit faster, and talk a bit more, in the car." She added. She never usually would speak to anyone - let alone a stranger - this way. She always tried to keep her cool. It was almost as if, even though he didn't know her, he was able to push all of her buttons.
Was he doing this on purpose? Did he know how frustrating he was being?

Jason mentally shrugged again. It was starting to get a bit to complicated for him, but he couldn't kick her out of his truck, could he? "I am not a very talkative man" he said suddenly and he knew that if he didn't keep his part of the conversation going, he knew the stranger in his truck would probably pitch a fit. Women were so complicated nowadays He was getting a bit frustrated but he didn't let it show. He allowed her to ride in his truck and here she was complaining about how slow he was driving and how little he talking. He almost bit his tongue so that he would not say anything bad. He wasn't that kind of man. He was a true sucker and it was near impossible for him to snap at somebody like that. "I live just a bit further down the road" He sped up to just about 45 mph down the road hoping it would please his little 'passenger'
He sighed with relief as he finally came the gates of his 10 acre property. He could see his brown gelding grazing quietly in the pasture near the 3 horse barn. He put his truck in park and looked over at Estelle "I just have to open the gates, I will be right back" he said simply as he slid out of his truck and ran up to the gates pushing them open. Once the gates were open he ran back to his truck, put it back into drive, and drove through the gates, and once again, this time without a word, he got out of the truck and locked the gates back. He walked back to the truck and reached for his keys, turning off the engine. "Now, welcome to my place" he said simply as he saw his horse in the distance throw up his head as he realized that Jason had returned.

Not a very talkative man? She thought, No, your just a big child. Your annoyed about something and your in a huff. She was glad he had actually spoken, but at the same time couldn't help feel angered that what he had said was, in fact, pointless. I still don't understand you at all, she added in her head. "Not far, I hope."
As they arrived, she nodded as he went to open the gate. Once through, she was able to spot the beautiful brown gelding, obviously happy to see Jason home. "He's truly beautiful, " she said, hopping out of the car and stepping toward the field with the horse in. "Beautiful house, too. " She added.

Jason looked around at field, and slipped his hand in his pocket again. He didn't know what to say in response to Estelle's statement and then he decided that maybe he should thank her "Thanks..."he muttered almost under his breath. He removed the shades from his face and hung them on his shirt. He looked at the gelding in the distance as the horse walked over to him. Jason had yet to seperate the land into seperate pastures, he hadn't got around to doing so. He patted the gelding on his head as the horse began grazing at his feet. Jason didn't know what to do next. For some reason he wished that instead of Estelle being the one visiting his small 'ranch', he wished it was Rowan Steele. But he barely new her either, he only knew her from a ride he took into the woods and he remebered helping her when her mare got away. But he still wished that it was her instead of Estelle. He looked over to his house and thought for a moment "So you want to learn how to ride western?" he said suddenly clearly in a better mood after he thought about the event that happened the day before with Rowan. He smiled as the gelding raised his head as Jason had spoke.
The gelding looked at Estelle with a sudden interest and then the gelding snorted suddenly as if he had just lost that interest, was he getting the same feelings his owner was. Hopefully not, the gelding wasn't entirely picky about people as much as Jason was, he was a horse for pete's sake. The gelding snorted again and resumed grazing on the lush grass that lay at his hooves.

[I'm so sorry it took so long, i've had programming commissions so i've been so busy - sorry] Estelle watched closely. No I don't want to learn western. I'm a show-jumper, and always will be! She thought to herself, That will never change. She stood silently for a moment, feeling awkward. She was starting to get the impression that neither the man nor his horse wanted her to be there at that moment. She shrugged off the idea; Jason was just shy; he didn't know her well enough yet to be open and chatty with her. That was all that was wrong. She smiled weakly to him. As she was doing so, her phone rang. Answering, and neglecting to check who was phoning, she spoke. "Hello? This is she. Oh hello there. Yes. No. Uh huh. Yeah. Thank you very much, that's brilliant news. I'll come by first thing in the morning then. Thank you. Have a nice day."
Her face was beaming. She was wearing a great, big, goofy smile. Her bid had been accepted on the farm, she was now the proud owner of Blue Hill. Sure, it was falling to pieces, all it's windows were broken and noone had lived in it for nearly a decade, but it was her new home. All she needed now was a horse and a job - her dream would be complete. On the instinct -- of wanting a hug -- she jumped toward Jason. Before she actually got to him, she stopped suddenly. It didn't feel right. The overwhelming feeling of unwelcoming was stopping her. He was such a killjoy. She knew she wouldn't be able to be happy about her new home if she was spending time with him. He probably didn't even know how to have a good time.
"A western lesson, yeah?" She said slowly.. "Hmm.. Yeah okay. Only if your willing.." She didn't know if she hoped he was willing or not. She would probably be better off leaving for a horse hunt. Her dad was going to send the money over for her to buy enough furniture for two rooms and a horse, after the barn was painted and fixed. She should probably go looking for a job, more importantly. "Hey, happen to know anywhere with a job available?" she added, thinking he probably knew somewhere, since he has stayed here longer than her.

Jason looked at his gelding and patted the horse's shoulder causing the gelding to raise his head wondering what his owner could want. He looked at Estelle for a few seconds then back at his gelding "Jobs?" He shoved his hands into his pockets as he tried to think of any jobs that were hiring "Well, I don't think I know any places that are hiring right now, sorry" he said simply as he started to walk towards his barn, his gelding following behind him. He wasn't exactly sure how to teach somebody to ride western but he guessed he would have to figure it out, and he sighed mentally as he remembered that whenever they were done he would have to take Estelle back to the coffee place, ugh, a sure waste of gas and my day He thought as he walked into the small 3 horse barn.

Estelle took in his words. No where was hiring. The current economy probably didn't much allow many people to hire. She would work for cheap, however, until the farm was fixed up. It would probably take years. She would start on the easy things; things that didn't need paying for. For example, cleaning inside the house and barn and weeding the fields. When the fields and barn were ready, she would section off a paddock in the front field and buy herself a horse. She couldn't wait.
"Thanks. So," she asked, struggling to remember whether she had asked before, "Ever been to a rodeo?" It was probably a stupid question, she thought, but she was making an effort, at least. He was still being downright rude. The least he could do was make an effort. She followed him into the small barn and looked around. Nothing unusual caught her eye. Maybe he was just a boring person?

Jason shrugged as he put a halter and lead on Cal and tied him up. "I've competed in a rodeo once, the cutting cattle event" He went into the tack room and pulled out a saddle blanket and western saddle. He looked over at Estelle as he placed the blanket over Cal's back "I was riding one of my dad's horses, the dang calf was a crazy son of a gun, to this day I have no idea how that calf managed to trip the horse I was riding" Jason slid the saddle onto the brown gelding' back and Jason patted the gelding who was waiting quite patiently. Jason disappeared into the tack room again, returning with a bridle this time "My cousin who stays here, participates in rodeos more than I do, bull riding, bronc riding and such" He took off the gelding's halter and gently put on the bridle, slipping the curb bit into the horse's mouth. Jason picked up the halter and led and put it in the tack room. He came back and grabbed the horse's reins. "Anything else you would like to know sweetheart?" He said with a tinge of sarcasm looming over the last part of what he had said. He was trying his best to be nice to his little guest, but somehow he found it quite hard to be nice to her, he didn't understand why.

Estelle exploded. She couldn't -- and wouldn't -- take this treatment any more. Hospitality? More like hostility. Jason was, by far, the rudest person she had ever met. Having been brought up in such a polite, respectable neighbourhood by polite, generous parents, she just couldn't understand how anyone could ever be this rude to someone they barely even knew. She stared at him in disbelief.
"How dare you speak to me that way!" she screeched, "Just how dare you! I'm only trying to make up for the fact that I was impolite this morning, but you! You are the rudest, most snide person I have met in all of my seventeen years, Jason!" She could feel her face burning. It wasn't from embarrassment. She was red in anger. She'd always had a terrible anger problem. She turned around to the wall, away from Jason. If she didn't punch something soon, she would probably end up punching him.
How dare he?

Jason stared at Estelle for a few more moments, not saying anything. He never got physically or emotionally mad at another person and he wasn't going to start now. He just simply clutched his horse's reins in his hand and led the gelding outside. It may have seemed like he was a coward but he just wasn't going to stand there and listen to that female yell in his ears all day. When he was a little ways his phone rang, and he stopped with his horse and answered his phone, it was happy-go-lucky cousin. He brought his phone to his ear and listened calmly "Yeah I'm at home. Yeah. I didn't realize you weren't home, I just got here about 15 minutes ago. Alright" He really had not realized his cousin was home until he noticed that his cousin's white truck was gone. Jason shrugged and looked up at the sky as he waited for his cousin to get there.

Estelle's rage was building. "Don't just walk away from me, mister!" she said, sounding so much like her mother, when her brothers were in their moods. She stood silently as he stopped and answered his phone. He wasn't going to get away with this. "You know, you certainly have the attitude of a cowboy. An arrogant, self centred --" she stopped, trying to control herself. She could feel her forehead sweating.
She stepped closer to him, back into the country air, out of the barn. "I'll go and wait in your truck for you to take me back to the coffee shop. I'd walk but I'd probably get lost." She stated, heading for the car.

Jason sighed, realizing that he had to untack his horse and everything but he sighed in relief he saw his cousin Kyle Joe pulling up into the field. He slipped his phone back into his pocket and patted his gelding, he called to Estelle, he was clearly ignoring what she had said previously or either he had heard her and was compleltely oblivious to her negative words. "My cousin can take you back, I have to untack this horse and feed him and such, goodbye Estelle" he said without a second glance as he led his horse back into the barn

Estelle jumped out of the truck again, pulling her hair with frustration. She hoped to god, she would never see Jason again. Today was such a waste of a day for her. She was now so angry. Her worry from the morning had turned to happiness at the sale of the house going through, and that had led to this. This anger would have her in a bad mood, well, for ages.
She watched as he walked away, without a look of remorse. She was, in a way, glad. She didn't need downers like him in her life. She wanted this -- her new life -- to be perfect. People like Jason caused havoc and destruction. She still, couldn't help think of the weird spark she had had earlier for him. Some sort of lust. She shrugged it off. She wouldn't waste her time with someone so obviously not interested.
She turned to the second vehicle pulling up and waved, "Hello! Hello?" she shouted. She couldn't see a face because of the glare on the window from the sun that day. She didn't know whether Jason's cousin was young, old, male or female. She didn't really want to find out, if he or she was anything like Jason.

Kyle watched as Jason walked away into the barn. He wondered what had pissed him off so much, oh well, didn't matter to him. He rolled down the window and waved to the girl "Why hello there!" he called happily to the girl that was approaching his truck. He didn't understand why his cousin told him on the phone to take this girl back but it didn't matter, Kyle didn't mind, no not at all. He liked staying on the road all day anyway, and he didn't have anything else to do anyway. He smiled excitely.
