"And this is a new member, we haven't named her officially yet, but we like calling her Jumper, since that's what she is known to do. She is a stray, now looking for a home. A good looking German shepherd mutt, around 8-9months old at least, she is potty trained, and very sweet. If nobody adopts her, she may have to be euthanized. We found her in a train yard, not far from here, she was dehydrated and starving, her paw was cut, but that was two months ago, now she is healthy as can be. Anybody willing to adopt this little girly?" The sweet voice of the caretaker cooed to the pup as she romped around in her outdoor enclosure. She yipped, throwing herself at the fence whenever a person walked by, tail wagging.
The black and brown puppy panted in the spring heat, lapping up water from her bowl continuosly, she didn't know what exactly was going on, but she was smart enoughto understand that she was hopefully going to be taken to a permanent home today, to somebody that loved her. She sat at the fence, looking up at the visitors lookig to adopt an animal today, she gave them her adorable brown eyes, glittering with pleas to take her home, but nobody showed interest in her except for the children who passed by with their parents.

The 20 year old shuffled around the Rescue center, looking for nothing in particular. Home was rather lonely right now, and though he didn't quite have enough money to get a purebred from the pet store, there was no need to let that stop him from getting a companion. A mutt was the best type of dog, he'd found over the years. purebreds were good for the breeders and all, but he preferred a dog of mixed gifts, with less aptitude for medical problems associated with pure breeding.
Kids flocked around a few of the outdoor dog pens, poking through the chain link at furry critters, stroking and poking and pulling without mercy. He chuckled, glad that the chain link prevented anything too serious. he leaned over the heads of a few kids to peer down at a dog- a beautiful little heeler, he'd guess a couple years old. What a perfect dog! He decided to wait for the kids to move out of the way, and continued walking around.
A group of children moved away from a fence, and a young German shepherd cross was revealed. Huritt knelt down, holding his hand up to the fence, chuckling at the exuberant nature of the little gal. Those big brown eyes were irresistable... He forgot about the heeler- those were adopted all the time, anyhow. It would probably go to a home where there would be a family. He reached through the fence to stroke along the little 'jumper's' ears, scritching her head lightly.
Already he could see it, going on a trail ride with this girl tagging along, throwing stick and such on the beach and watching her splash through the waves, working cattle, even! Huritt grinned and stood, facing the woman that talked about the little mutt. "What's the fee for adoption? He reached a hand out to the fence, wondering if the mutt would jump up to him, and turned to speak in a low, kind voice- "Would you like a home, pretty girl?" He smiled, not quite sure yet but almost won over.

The young pup squirmed, wrestling with her playmate, a one-year-old pitbull named Josie. The stray shuffled onto her paws, barking and howling, throwing her brown and black-patterned body at the fence. Her tail wagged so fast that her whole hindside was moving. She looked up at the children, who snuck their fingers through the chain fence, she licked them, salavating with excitement.
When the children ran towards their parents and when some were dragged away after making fits because the parents wouldn't adopt the femme, she sat down, looking around. The shelter attendant stood by the gate to the cage, qnd be t down to scratch the little puppies chin. "Awe girl, you will definatly be adopted." The attendant looked up, and stood as a man a little older than her stepped over to the cage, looking at the pup with smiles and satisfaction, the little mutt rolling around on the ground. She smiled, leaning forward. "For this little one, I'll make it Fifty dollars, including her food. She's already had all vaccinations."
The puppy barked, and the attendant smiled, would this be it for the little one? she hoped so.

A moment longer of looking at the puppy and Huritt was sold. He dug into his back pocket, pulling some rumpled cash out of his wallet and holding it out. "Or should I pay inside?" He asked, unsure. It wasn't every day he bought a dog, and such a young one at that. Training would be hard, but luckily - since he was adopting- there was enough money to buy the basics for a dog. He'd need to get her food, a shelter, a water and food bowl.. a collar and leash, too. Well, surely they'd have a leash for her here?
He smiled down to the mutt, reaching down to let her sniff his hand if she wanted- it probably smelled like treats, horse treats. He nearly always carried some in his pocket. "Lead the way, ma'am. I'm buying this little one." And he'd have to think of a name sometime... one that suited her. No need to rush, though... Jumper would do for now if he had to fill out a form or anything.

The puppy rolled around, the attendant opened her cage, slipping a red leash around her neck. Jumper looked up at Huritt, her tongue rolled out the side of her mouth. He had no need to worry about training, she was intelligent. The attendant offered Huritt her leash, when he took it she le him to the outside service tent. She let him pay, giving him a big bag of dry dog food and she let him keep the leash, even though it wasn't a real one, just the kind that you slide over the dogs head and tighten.
Jumped jumped around, saying one last goodbye to her attendant, she plodded alongside Huritt, tail wagging as she looked around.

Huritt led the puppy away from the shelter with mixed emotions. What was he thinking, buying a dog? Ah well, it was still going to be worth it, even if he hadn't thought it all the way through yet. He opened the door to his old ford truck, letting the little mutt hop inside and making sure her tail and such was out of the way before closing the door carefully. He reached over into the passenger seat, rubbing between her ears as he started the truck.
"We're going home, girl." He grinned, pulling out of the parking lot. He rolled down the passenger window a bit, not enough to let Jumper slip through, but enough that she could stick her nose out if she wanted. Soon they were at the pet store; Huritt considered leaving Jumper in the car but wasn't sure how she'd do, so picked up her leash and opened up the door like a chauffer, gesturing to the ground. "But first we're gonna have to get you some shelter and treats."

Jumper looked around, tongue lolling as she somehow managed to stick her whole head out the window. She seemed to smile, her eyes twinkling. She barked half-counciously, scaring some birds by the side of the road. She felt the truck slow to a stop, and pulled her head back in.
She hopped down onto the ground, looking around. She did what dogs do, sniffing curiously at the asphalt. She then looked to the building infront of her. She sniffed at it, uninterested, she turned around, staring at her new master with a shining, trustworthy eye. Boy, would she be a great dog.
