James jogged along the beach, the gentle breeze ruffling his dark brown hair. It was early evening, although since it was summer it was still very light. Because of the time, there were very few people on the beach. The only people around were a few dog walkers and some other people out jogging. It was nice to be out finding his way around. James had only recently moved into town and so he still didn't quite know where everything was. Another problem was that he didn't know anyone who could show him around. Sure, there were other people at the barn where he boarded his horse Ty, but he didn't really know them. He would have to make a concious effort to make friends with the people there.
A little further along the beach, James decided to take a break. He had been jogging for about forty five minutes and his leg muscles were starting to hurt. Quickly checking around for anything disgusting that he didn't want to sit in, James sat down in the soft white sand. It was nice and peaceful with the waves breaking against the shore. There was no hurry for James to get back to anywhere, so he lay back onto the sand. He'd probably spend a while getting all the sand out of his hair, but that wasn't much of a problem. The sun was starting to set, so James watched that with his arms loosely crossed over his chest.

Alexandria sat among the few individuals that were here, a beagle next to her. She messed with his eats affectionately, a tennis ball sitting next to him. He was off the leash, and for once being good. She pushed at her bangs, her brunette hair this time not in a braid but in a ponytail. Her green eyes watched the sun slowly starting to sink toward the horizon, the paints across the sky gorgeous against the darkening water. All of a sudden a cold nose pressed against her hand, and she looked to see Tom with the ball, his tail wagging, eyes pleading. Her heart melted at the sight. Okay, just a couple then we gotta go. She had just purchased a house, not the best thing but there was some land, which is what she really wanted. Being scrunched up next to people was not her thing, there needed to be some land between her and the next neighbor. Standing up, she shook off the sand on her jean shorts and tightened her ponytail. Tossing the ball, she watched as it hit the water as water took sand to the depths but left the ball. He looked at her like ‘that was the best you could do?’ before jogging to go and get it. Bringing it back, he dropped it at her feet and sat down, tilting his head as he watched her. Bending down, she grabbed the ball. This time she tossed the ball a little farther and he scrambled after it, going into the water a tiny bit before coming out, shaking off the water. His tail was going frantically, so happy to be playing again. Looking over, he noticed someone that did not seem to be having too much fun. Well Tom would just have to do something about that.
What in the world is he doing? Alex murmured to herself, starting to stride toward Tom as he trotted off toward a nearby stranger. Tom looked over at her and started running, tail wagging. He made it over to the stranger that was laying down and dropped the ball at his side and sat down, tilting his head and looking at him with angelic eyes. Tom! She exclaimed, jogging toward them. Tom just looked over at her before going back to staring at the guy, his tail starting to wag as he tried to hypnotize him with his stare. Come play with me, come play with me, come play with me. You will play with me, you will play with me. Awww come on, who could really say no to me? I’m cute. He started to whine. Tom, leave him alone. Alex said, grabbing his collar, finally having made it to him. She clipped on the leash. Sorry about him, some days he is way too friendly. She said toward the guy, a smile on her face and she could not hide the laughter in her eyes. Sometimes her dog was too friendly, but some of the things he did were funny. [/blockquote]

In his head, James was trying to map out the quickest route back home. He needed his sleep, after all he had to work tomorrow and therefore didn't want to be out jogging for all that long. What he was trying to figure out was whether it would be better and easier to just go back the way he came, or continue around the block and hope that took him in the direction of his house. Maybe it would be better to head back the way he came, since he could remember that route. The last thing that he wanted was to get lost and spend hours wandering around trying to find his house.
James' eyes were closed whilst he did this so that he could concentrate, but soon he heard something moving nearby. There was definitely something coming towards him. Putting his hand out to one side in order to pull himself up, he put his hand down on something round. When he looked down, it was a tennis ball. And sat beside it was a cute little Beagle. James couldn't help smiling. This was something that his old dog would have done and regularly did do in fact. Going up to random strangers and begging to play was second nature to Max, a Labrador that James had owned as a child. As James reached up and scratched behind the Beagle's ear, he heard someone shouting. The voice was coming from a girl who was jogging towards him. Was that the dog's name? Tom? It seemed that the dog did respond, so it probably was his name. Who's a good boy, hey? James said quietly for the dog as he slid his hand down Tom's neck and held onto his collar, just in case he decided to try and run off. The girl finally reached them and apologized for Tom's behaviour. Don't worry about it, James said with a smile on his face. I'm used to it. My old dog used to do this all the time. With the tennis ball in his hand, James stood up. Here's your ball by the way. He stretched out his arm, with a smile still on his face.

Alexandria looked up at him and Tom just sat down, looking at the ball, willing it to fly out of his hand and into the air and bounce around on the beach. He wagged his tail before starting to whine, amber eyes looking from owner to stranger before something else caught his eye. A seagull! He barked, running at it before being pulled back by the leash. He strained at it, wanting to get at this ferocious creature and show his mightiness that was necessary to show who he was. Tom, haven’t you had enough exercise for the day? Alex asked, wrapping the leash around her hand as she slowly brought him back in. He stood there, watching the seagull as it pecked at a fry, waiting for the right moment to seize and attack. Alex just rolled her eyes. He’ll do anything besides actually guard. Someone knocks at the door and he’s barking from under my bed. I’m Alex by the way. She said, this time giving a yank on the leash and Tom finally relented, coming back to sit beside her, licking at her leg as if looking for forgiveness. Like you deserve it. She said to him. He walked over to James, sniffing at his shoes, hoping for some support from the guy. ‘Cause them guys, they have to stick together. Alex took the ball and slipped it in her pocket to keep it out of sight, along with the treats that she had brought along.
(Sorry it’s crappy and I haven’t posted in a while =P hoping that will change) [/blockquote]
