adam elton,
Adam walked in through the entrance of the door way of the establishment. He had come here before a few days ago, he took a liking to this place. He liked how it smelled of coffee and such. He had just gotten off of work about thirty minutes ago and he wasn't quite tired, no not yet. It was a slow day as usual he had yet to get any patients, it seemed like the only patients he would get or the stray dogs that are accidently hit by cars and such. Of course he would help the injured canines but he would always have the burden of finding them new homes, luckily there were alot of sympathetic people that came by the vet's office and he was happy for that. He sat down at a table and quickly ordered a cup of tea. He knew it wasn't a bit late in the day to be drinking coffee and he wasn't much of a coffee person either. He smiled at the waitress as she asked him if he would like anything else "No, thank you" he said his foreign British accent evident. He watched as the waitress walked away then he placed the book that he had carried in with him on the table. It was book on the health of equines, despite being a vet he always wanted to keep up with his studies you could never learn too much. He started from the beginning of the book and slowly turned the page as he finished the previous page.

ALEXANDRIA ACKERMAN
I strolled down the sidewalk, already missing my omnipresent companion. He was at the house unfortunately. I was going shopping today at all the little stores, and although Tom was about the cutest thing ever, I figured he would not be allowed in the shops with him. I laughed to myself at the thought. I hoisted my bags over my shoulders as I opened the door to the coffee shop, the thick aroma of coffee hitting me square in the face. Although I did not like the taste of coffee, I loved the smell of it. The bitterness of it just gave it that sorta kick in the nostrils that some people needed. I ordered myself a cup of tea, although I knew their tea wasn’t the best. I liked my tea at home that was mixed with mint and chamomile and really made me relaxed. Grabbing the tea with my only free hand, I settled it on one of the many tables that were available. I chose a window seat, letting the sun that was coming in warm my skin because the cool air conditioning was just too chilly for my taste. I pushed a strand of brunette hair that came out of the braid behind my ear as my green eyes devoured the looks of the books that took up most of my bag. It was probably half books, another quarter for Tom, a little bit more for the house, and I think one bag devoted to groceries. You can see where my priorities lie, and it’s definitely not in the feeding for the stomach but more the feeding for the mind. My bookcase was already full, and Tom already had enough toys, but I just could not resist. I looked through the books, making sure to place them carefully aside so as to not rip the bag before finding one that particularly interested me. I thought I would go in for more of a guilty pleasure. A murder mystery, full of spice and characters that were strong but soft at the same time. My goal: To read the two-hundred page book in two hours. And now, we begin… [/blockquote]

He flipped another page and he looked up just in time to see the waitress set his cup of tea down on the table, he smiled at her "Thank you" As she walked away and returned to his book. He loved all kinds of tea but he favored the tea that his mother used to make all of the time when he was back home, although he could never quite figure how to make it himself. He looked up from his book and took a sip from the tea, it tasted strange for a bit, it wasn't exactly bad but it wasn't exactly good. It was the kind of taste that you would like for a few more moments but you wouldn't want to encounter that taste again. He blinked a few times then set the cup back on the table and returned to his book. It was very interesting to him anyway, he took out a note pad and starting writing note, tidbits they he wanted to remember for later references. He looked up just in time to notice that a young woman seemed to be a bit of a bookworm too. For a moment he went back to his book then he figured that it wouldn't hurt to say hello to the fellow book reader. He left his book, notepad and pen on the table and stood walking over to the woman's table. He didn't want to seem strange just walking up to a stranger, a person that he did not know but he figured it would not hurt to say a simple greeting. He stopped at her table and looked at the book that she had laid out on the table "Excuse me, but I could not help but notice the book you were reading" He said lifting his gaze from the book.

Even the cover of the book was even taunting me with the cover art and the few words on the front, and I could already tell it was going to be a quick page-turner. I knew that my evening would be spent on the porch as the sun set while reading. The only horrible thing was the sun. Although I liked it against my skin, I did not like it against the pages of my book, blinding out the words I need to read, like my life depended on it. My eyes were full of interest, my heart already pounding. All of a sudden a voice distracted me from the pages that vied for my attention oh-so-much. Brief irritation were etched across my face before I noticed that the voice was not being annoying, just saying something simple. No reason to be irritated about that. In a small town people always walked up to other people. It was the hazard you took if you were not a people person, being in this setting. The irritation was quickly changed with interest. Have you read it before? I asked. He was nowhere near what the author explained in the book as the main male character, “there was no fat on him, just all muscle” but it didn’t mean this man didn’t look good either. Most of these godforsaken murder mysteries had guys that were only in fairytales, not in real life. I’m sorry, where are my manners, I’m Alex. I said with a friendly smile. My tea went untouched. Three dollars for it, and it was not even that good. I think I just got it for looking like I was doing something when I just wanted an excuse to read. What the subconscious can do sometimes is rather terrifying and always right. Freud had something under all that crap, didn’t he? [/blockquote]

His gaze rested on the book once more as he tried to recall it. He had read a great deal of different books and all of their tiltes seem to merge together in his mind. Although he seemed to remember the book that lay in front of him, but of course it had been awhile since he had set eyes upon it. He looked back the young woman sitting at the table "Why yes, I believe I have" He said after he finally was able to recall the book. He believed it was murder mystery of some sorts. He was always reading mystery and reference books most of the time. "Oh no need to be sorry Miss Alex." he said smiling at her "It is a pleasure to meet you. I'm Adam" It was nice to see a new face every now and then, it wasn't that hard to remember everyone in a town as small as this one. A new person stood out like a sore thumb in such a enviorment although they didn't stay new for long. There was always something new to learn in this town wasn't there?

Alex looked down at the book as the man stated that he had read it before. Do you remember if it was good? I don’t wanna waste my time reading a book to be disappointed, she looked down at her bags, [/b]When I have other books to read too.[/b] Science fiction, thrillers, adventures, you name it, she probably had it in the bag, including some reference books just whenever she felt the need to become a little bit more intelligent. She figured that sounded kinda selfish, but hey, she was trying to set a world record. Okay no, but she knew the sooner that she got through all these books the sooner she could go out and buy more. Maybe it was time she invested in a library card, eh? It’s nice to meet you too, and please, just Alex, Mr. Adam. You can have a seat if you want. She said, looking over at the table that he had been sitting at, noticing the different things on the table, Unless you are too enthralled in your book. In which case, don’t let me hold you up. She smiled. She understood quite well the necessity of diving into a book and never escaping its depths until the last page had been turned. (Eh sorry for the crappiness)[/size][/blockquote]

He too looked at the book that lay on the table "I believe so. I can say that it was a very interesting book" He read alot of books, he spent most of his day reading books when he wasn't doctoring on some poor injured animal. If not that, he was reading about doctoring on a injured animal. He remembered the book he had brought with him, he had read that book mutiple times that the book looked worn now from all the times he has flipped through the pages or went back in the book to refer to something. He looked back at her as she spoke again "Oh you are not holding me up. I was simply reading a book on equine health, one in which I may have read too many times" He glanced over at the book he had brought with him as it laid upon the table. He already knew that he would end up reading about a dozen more times before he placed it back on his bookshelf for good. There seemed to be a endless stream of books pouring into his bookshelf.

You too? I asked, chuckling to myself. My mom didn’t understand why I kept my books. She was always shifting books from one person to another. Me, on the other hand, I held onto books like they were my lifeline. Sometimes you knew what kind of book you wanted, what would give you what you wanted. And an old book is like a good friend, it never lets you down. I took a straw that was in a little dispenser on the table and opened it, absentmindedly stirring the tea with it to have something to do with my hands. Equine health? So, just taking a guess, you’re a vet or a vet student or somewhere around there? I took a sip of my tea again, this time through the straw, thinking maybe miraculously it had become better. But instead of drinking more, I made a face of disgust before pushing it away. My attention was quickly diverted to the pounding of footsteps outside. I looked to see little kids running down the sidewalk, smiles on their faces as they huffed and puffed before turning around and running again before doing it again. They were having fun racing each other, and she smiled, this time one of wistfulness and memories. To be so young again. I said, more to myself than Adam. I turned back around, deciding to ignore the kids and let them have their fun while the days were still nice. [/blockquote]

He watched as Alex fiddled with the straws on the table. Soon enough he sat down at the table at the mentioning of equine health. He flashed a smile at her Good guess and yes I am the vet here He didn't realize someone could just guess a person's job occupation just by what the read. Although he was perfectly happy at his job occupation. He watched as she took a sip of the tea then he noticed how her face changed at the taste of it The tea here isn't very good. Seems like they just make it and just give it to a customer. Tastes more or less like poison He turns just in time to see the kids running outside. It was good to see young people sometimes, good to know that the world was still growing strong

She watched the kids for a few more minutes before looking away as the mother came out and ushered them away. Probably to another store, because today seemed to be the day of shopping. Those poor kids, they probably just wanted to be in a pool or in the air conditioning somewhere. Even Mickey-Dee’s iced tea is better. Wow, those French fries all of a sudden sounded really good, and her mind started to think about them as if they were nothing. But no, no she didn’t need one. Not only that, but Felicity seemed to be one of the few towns in America that did not have one. So how long have you been here? She asked, not knowing really what else to say. She watched as more and more people started coming in and lining up, and knew if she really wanted anything else it was gonna be a while before she should get up and get it. [/blockquote]

His gaze lifted from the window and focused back on Alex again. I prefer homemade tea over anything else He looked back out the window again watching the children run off. The tea back in his country tasted much better than the tea at this place, but it was good. Perhaps he was just at the wrong place looking for tea. He took note of the stream of people that were coming in before he looked back at Alex Oh I haven't been here very long. Perhaps a month or two. He couldn't quite place at how long he had been in the small town, but he knew it was long enough How about you? Have you been here long?

Only a week or two, just got a house and now to find a job to keep my dog in his toys and food. Have any ideas? Yeah she did that a little backwards, getting a house and then getting a job. But she needed a place to live, and most people did not like dogs in apartment complexes. Not only that, but poor Tom would probably go crazy without the room to run. He needed his space, and so did Alex. Space was everything for her in the literal sense of the word when it came to neighbors. She liked to be able to stretch out and not meet a neighbor’s yard, thank you very much. And maybe, just maybe, she would get another dog. If she thought Tom needed a playmate. [/blockquote]

Adam smiled for a moment. I don’t have many ideas, but I would like to mention the fact that I need more help at the animal clinic. And it was true, it was only him working there at the moment, although he wasn’t exactly getting in a lot of patients in lately but of course people usually came and wanted to get check ups or vaccinations for their beloved animals Of course I would be willing to pay you, if you took up my offer. He added soon after. Even if Alex had agreed to work there part time, he would be satisfied at that. He thought back to his German Shepard, Ellie, after he finished college that was his first patient. He thought back to when he had discovered the poor dog late on a winter night. He guessed that everyone had passed the dog up because it looked as if she wasn’t breathing. But on that night, he had the heart to get out of his car and as soon as he reached the dog, she raised her head, lasting hope still in her eyes. He made a decision to take the young dog in, it was his job to save animal lives, and save a life he did.

Alex seemed like a dream had just come true. I would love that! She said with a beaming smile. Wow, in one afternoon I meet a stranger and then he becomes my potential boss. She guessed that it could be something like small town life. Her mind quickly shifted from speaking with a stranger to more of an interview kind of stance. What kind of responsibilities would I have? She asked, wanting to know what she could do. She did not have degree like he did, although she loved animals like they were everything in her world. And they were. She glanced over at the line that seemed never-ending. It seemed to be the afternoon rush for them. She hoped their coffee was better than their tea. She looked back at Adam, waiting patiently for an answer. She did not believe he came in looking for a potential employee, so she did not think he would actually have all the information right on hand. [/blockquote]

He laughed at her reaction to his mentioning of giving her job Seeing as we could both benefit from your working there He said soon after. He realized that she probably did not have a degree like he did but he knew something she could probably do that would not require her earning of a degree. Well, I've got the surgery part of animals down. If you were to work at the clinic, I would probably give you simple reponsibilties such as taking care of some of the overnight patients. And, excluding the surgery parts, I suspect you could be able to handle small things, such as giving vaccinations? They are quite simple. He finished, the things he had just listed were quite simple, and he was doing it all by himself but it had become quite a handful after awhile, but somehow he always managed to get it all done in a day's work.
