Our new home, sweetie She murmured as she turned her truck into the gravel driveway, a smile plastered on her face and excitement surging through every muscle of her being. Tom was excited too. His nose was sticking out the window and his tail was like a fan, one could never see it. Sit back down. She laughed, pulling on his collar as she parked the truck, looking out toward the cabin. It needed a little fixing up here and there, but she got it at a good price. The woods behind it would be beautiful, especially during the fall. The leaves would be difficult to pick up during the autumn, but she would have a ton of fun. The brunette was almost shoved out of the door as Tom scrambled out, running up the steps before jumping the last one, starting to dig at the door. First thing going in, a doggy door so I don’t have to let you out all the time. She trusted him enough not to run away, although the forest would be a different thing. She would have to put in an invisible fence so that he did not get in there because she did not know what lived in there. Opening the door, she took her first look at her first house.
It caught her breath. It wasn’t much, but it was everything to a girl who did not have that much. She listened to the creak of the door as it shut behind her. That would not go away. It showed life, it showed how old this place really was. It showed stories. Alex did not take off her shoes yet because the house needed to be cleaned from the moving men traipsing in and out. Her own truck was full of boxes that needed to be dragged in, but she would put that off. Walking into the livingroom, she ran her finger over the bookcase that, within a few hours, would be crammed to the top of books from science fiction to murder mystery to biographies. The television would go in the corner. Her mind filled with little diagrams of where everything was going to go. Climbing the stairs, she listened to the musical squeaks. Entering the master bedroom, she forgot that it had a balcony. That would be perfect for nights of gorgeous sights. The bathroom was right in there, but she knew if she had any guests they would have to use this bathroom. That was the one fault with this house: The master bathroom was the only one with a shower. Go figure.
Climbing down the stairs, she laughed outright at the sight of Tom sitting at the end of it, a ball in his mouth. Oh really? I guess you’re thinking we need to break this yard in, eh? Okay, okay! She laughed again, happiness rolling through the house as Tom jumped on her, letting out a bark before going to the front door and jumping on it before starting to pace. Letting him out, she followed him as he jumped down the steps, the little dog turning around and waiting for the ball. Tossing it, she watched as it bounced and Tom let out a growl, missing the ball by just inches. Sitting down on one of the steps, she looked to her left and looked to her right. There was definitely space between her and her neighbors, which made her happy. But at some point she would meet them, she wanted to meet everybody. She was brought out of her thoughts by a tongue licking her face. I get it. She said, throwing the ball again as he ran for it. He was pretty proud of himself because he caught it on the second bounce. When he came back she put her forehead to his and whispered to Tom, Welcome home boy.
