The grumble of an older truck echoed off the thick trunks of the old oak trees that enclosed the shaded lane. A splutter sounded from the rickety vehicle's exhaust but it's owner shrugged it off. He was used to his four wheeled beast playing up. He also knew it was reliable. What worried him more was the trailer it was pulling, equally as old and equally as reliable, but it held something dear to his beating heart. His four legged beast was stowed inside. He wondered what his Grulla paint was thinking. If she was wondering where the heck he was taking her. That was a good question that he was not very sure of himself. He had been driving for seven hours straight to his new home, and decided that he should ride his mare before taking her to his new home. He wanted to ride out her tense muscles from the trip and allow her to settle into her new surroundings. He finally saw a sign that read to turn onto a trail. His oracles lit up when he observed that the sign announced that it was a mountainous trail. He chuckled happily, knowing that American paint mare would enjoy it too.
Her painted dome shook in impatience, she snorted grumpily as she awaited her rider to stop his wheeled vehicle. She did not understand these contraptions. Why use something that had wheels when you had a perfectly strong enough four legged equine, like herself, to ride. She rolled her dark orbs and sighed deeply. Come on Niall! Stop already! she called out in a high pitched whine. She was growing bored and wanted to stretch her divine muscled pillars. As if her human had heard her, the moving monster pulled to a halt abruptly. She staggered slightly and snorted in anger. Gentler next time, hey genius? she grumbled and winced when sunlight shone into her dark haven. She had grown accustomed to the little light she had been earning the past few hours. The trailer shrieked as her human entered, untying her lead rope and backing her out of the stuffy box. She shook out her body, allowing a deep sigh of satisfaction to emit from herself. She followed her human willingly, wanting to investigate where they had stopped. It was pretty obvious to her that they had not stopped at their new home. She glanced up to see the ominous view of intimidating mountains in front of her. A shiver of excitement ran down the mares back and she picked up the bell of laughter coming from her owner. He knew that she would love it, he knew her too well. She allowed him to tie her to the side of the box, letting the sun soak her painted pelt, enjoying the heat it passed onto her.
See, I do pick the right places Clover. he spoke in thick Irish brogue to his mare as he placed the heavy western saddle upon her broad back. She snorted as if she understood him and he smiled. He was in a great mood today, maybe it was the new town or the fact that Clover had acceptable behavior for once, who knew? But for once, he couldn't care less. He just wanted to enjoy the day. He went to his truck to retrieve his riding helmet after he had placed the bridle on his all too willingly mare and was then ready to go. He checked her girth before untying her and then mounted with ease. The mare beneath him adjusted her weight and then the were ready. He dug his heels into her sides and she responded beautifully. Soon, they were making their way up the fantastic scenic route up the mountain.

Juliet, Juliet, Juliet. When are you gonna learn? You can’t eat every plant on the trail. Rachael complained, but with a smile on her face. Her helmet was beside her and she had the Arabian’s head close to hers as she picked through the forelock for burrs. Maybe coming on a ride today was just too much for the mare. Yeah right. There was no such thing as too much. It seemed Juliet never tired. The chestnut mare just stood there for once, as if trying to behave herself. Rae would have left it, but then again, it would be just a rotten mess later on, even more so. She really did love her mare; they were best friends to say the least. She did not know what she would have done without her for those few years when she was growing up and just getting out of the…Never mind, for her the story was just going a little too far within her head. She picked them out, one by one by one.
But her hair, on the other hand, seemed to have different plans. She kept pushing it back, trying to make sure to get every bit out. She had a handy tool to just pull these right on out, but of course, guess where they were? The barn. Getting frustrated, she let Juliet go for just a second and threw her brunette hair up in a messy ponytail, sighing as she grabbed the mare, who had already started sinking down lower and lower toward the plants, hoping that her owner, of course, would not see her, that she was just that sneaky. Mmhmm Ms. Sneaky McSneakerton, try that on someone who doesn’t know you. Really, Juliet, Really?! You get these things in the weirdest of spots! She exclaimed, undoing the curb chain to get to it. Pulling it out, she redid the chain. Lets see it was going to be 10 minutes of riding time for every 20 minutes of getting burrs out. Such fun. Note the sarcasm by the way. Rae looked up and down the trail, her gray eyes scanning to make sure they were in no one’s way, but did not see anyone. As long as it was not a stallion, she would be okay, otherwise she would have to deal with a “swooning” mare following behind a stallion.
Okay I think that’s the last one. She sighed as she threw it to the side. Looking to the side again, she saw a horse and rider coming up. Well she figured, as nice as a day as this, people would not pass up the opportunity to get out of the arena and onto the trails. Checking the girth (she would rather not come back down the mountain plunging headfirst toward the ground), she strapped on her helmet, the one trail she actually wore it on. Mounting up quickly, she snapped her reins a little bit to get her horse’s head up and out of the plants AGAIN. Moving to the side, she held a firm grip of the reins, just in case. Usually she was more lax, but this was a little more dangerous terrain than a lake or a forest. There was no need to be acting stupid. She would just let them mosey on down the trail and at some point they would follow, maybe find a different trail. [/blockquote]

Left, right, left, right. The fae kept her steady gait with ease, no sweat breaking over her painted pelt. The mare snorted and smashed her whip cord into her rump. She was attacking the insistent fly that had followed them up most of their ride. Can we go into the shade? she asked her owner, pulling her dome in the direction to the left. When he didn't allow her too, she sidestepped before he could react and she was now moving under the shade of the thick oak trees brush. She shook her well muscled frame and heard Niall exclaim in surprise. She could not help but give a little chuckle. Her dark oracles grew bored, she wanted to stretch out her pillars, not keep to a steady beat the whole ride. Just before she was going to play up and give Niall a run for his money, she heard a noise she disliked immensely. Approaching hooves rang into her audits, which became glued against her neck. She peered around to see a damn Arabian with a rider she could not identify. The mare spun, surprising her owner once more. She glared at the approaching femme and snorted in agitation. Her stance became locked, Niall would not be able to move her for a while. She pawed at the ground and snorted again, hearing Niall let out an annoyed sigh.Sorry Niall, you know I hate other horses, especially showy mares like this one. she almost growled, more to the mare than her owner.
Niall called out in Irish lyrics. Oh, come one Clover! Let them pass. he said, trying to turn her around. She refused out right and took a step forward instead. He let out a long sigh and decided to address the human. Hey, sorry. She won't move though.. Not at least for a while.. he told the female rider in exasperation. He looked up to the clear skies and sent a small prayer. He wished his mare wasn't so strong willed and he was able to control her better. He knew it would never happen, and also knew he would hate it if she was some boring old mare that had been there done that for everything. But, a little give would be nice from her on occasions. Horses, hey? he offered to the female rider as an apology. Clover really was a pain in the ass. So.. Since I'm gonna be stuck here for a while, I may as well introduce myself. I'm Niall O'Mally, new resident of this lovely town. You are? he asked pleasantly, giving her a half smile. He took one hand from the reins to trace it down the stubble that had been growing on his chin for the last week.

Pssst Rachael, I think we have a bitch in our midst. Juliet stated, not even caring if the other mare heard her. Juliet ambled up gaily, ears perked, ready for a ride. The mare, on the other hand, was just a nuisance in the path. No worries though. She wished it were a stallion, she’d charm them off a path. But mares, well, they were all temperamental. No room to talk so was she. Rather be showy and proud of what I look like than bitchy and negative. She replied back with a little bit of happiness, a pep in her step. She was just happy to be out on the trail. Shoot and if this one was gonna let a little company rain on her parade, then so be it. She stopped within feet of the mare, shaking her flaxen mane a little to relieve an itch from a bug landing on her neck
Rachael had to laugh a little at the mare this man was riding. She was stubborn, Rae would give her that. Pretty too. And she had to admit the man wasn’t half bad looking either, but the mare took away the appeal of the man. You can’t live without them but sometimes you sure as heck can’t train them either. But then again, who would want to? She was not about to become all philosophical like, that was sure not her philosophy. Guess you’re gonna have company. I figure we won’t move until you do because it is such a beautiful day to stand around and do nothing. Rachael Hardren, owner of Evergreen Ranch. She felt a little nip on her foot and she looked down. Oh yes so sorry attention always has to be on you. This is Juliet, resident flirt of Evergreen Ranch, and of course, the pain in my butt. She smiled at the last comment. It might have been true, but unfortunate pampering and spoiling of the first horse kinda made her that way. She pushed a piece of short brunette hair out of her eyes, And who is that stubborn creature? She asked, nodding toward the mare. She let her feet dangle from the stirrups to become more comfortable. Also, if something were to happen, like a cat fight, well mare fight really, she would be more prepared to jump off rather than get a frickin’ foot stuck. That had never happened to her but she did not want it to happen either. [/blockquote]

The painted femme darted her dome out toward the Arabian. Her teeth bared in anger, fury blazing in her dark oracles. I hear your human calling you a flirt? Hmm, Slut or respect for myself? I think I would pick option 2. she gave a dark chuckle to the chestnut fae. The mare backed up a step, her neck arching so her muzzle nearly pressed against her chest, and she pawed violently at the dusty trail. She did not care if the particles stuck to her pelt, she would welcome it as it would cool her. But, she may as well try and annoy the crap out of this damn chestnut. She felt Niall pull at her reins but she did not smarten up. Her neck straightened out and took another step forward. So fae, you want to pass? Or would you like me to insult you more? she chuckled again, a smirk pulling at her soft maw.
Don't I know it. he smiled at her. He listened as she introduced herself. Well, It's nice to meet you Rachel. I'll have to come out to your fine establishment, I still need to find a place for this beast. he said, indicating to his beautiful paint. He gave a bell of laughter at her mare waiting to be introduced. He pulled sharply at Clover's reins when she went to take another few steps toward Juliet. This pain in my butt is Clover, the love of my life but also the thing that places the most stress upon me. he announced grandly, lowering his torso to pat Clover's neck. She eased up her stance slightly, but still kept her orbs upon the mare in front of them. Once again, I apologize for her behavior. Thoughts stormed through his head before thinking of something to ask Rachel to make conversation. So, You been here all your life? Recently moved here? he asked easily. It was obvious that he was not if his accent was anything to go by. He just needed to strike up conversation and try to distract his mare to get her to go again.

Some would just never understand the ability to be a tease, but never get laid. Juliet did it for the fun because, at the current moment, there were like two mares and a billion stallions. She needed something to do. But see, I have a dilemma. I’d rather not be alone because what fun is that? We could insult each other all the way up the mountain, and I could kick your ass running up the mountain. Or we could stand here, waiting for this wonderful ride that will never happen because we both are just as stubborn. It’s your choice, I ain’t moving until you do. Just to prove it she settled in, her muscles relaxing underneath the shiny chestnut coat. She cocked a hoof up and let out a content sigh, her eyelids drooping over her eyes, ready to take a nap. Her voice was low, kind of bored when she spoke next, By the way, you can insult as much as you want. It doesn’t affect me. Like I don’t affect you, right? She felt the reins become lax, and she was able to tilt her head toward the ground, but more for that “nap” than anything else.
Psh, any horse like her is the kind of horse I like. Lots of personality, good and bad. She thought about her “fine establishment” and a small smile appeared on her face. It was what she wanted all her life, even if others did not believe it could happen. But again, those thoughts needed to stay like, take a right, go straight, down this aisle, and straight into the recycle bin to go bye-bye. My barn isn’t anything too fancy. It’s more of a small establishment, still needing some fixing up but I love it. Not too many horses or boarders, but then I get to know everyone on a more personal level rather than just a quick “Hi” every once in a while, and now I will stop rambling. She said, laughing a little bit at herself. She doubted he really wanted to hear this whole thing. Nope, I’m just getting used to the small town life. I used to live in a big city, but it was just too boring so I figured I’d try this out. She moved with Juliet, and looped the reins around the horn so they were both more comfortable. This was such great exercise they were getting, such gorgeous scenery. I know you’re loving this Juliet, this is just your kind of ride. Doing absolutely nothing. She stroked her mare’s neck before bending down and playing with her ears. No response. Of course. Straightening back up, she figured it was her turn to question him. Now just a hunch, I don’t know why I think this, but you’re not from around here either. Where are you from? Of course she knew why he wasn’t around here, and her smile and slight sarcasm showed it. Gosh that sarcasm, it slipped out whenever it felt like it. [/blockquote]
