Just a ghost...(who ever feels like finding him)

I flicked an ear, and then pricked them at her, I snorted. Dont remind me that we are going to get an earful and the last time I checked he was not in a good mood, unless his sleep made him in a better mood but I think when his son tells him that we are going to get it. I shook my head and Stevie dropped Belles reins and Belle stepped closer to me, I smiled I do like foals, I had two of my own and thats because my owner wanted them I did not know those mares at all, I hope your not mad at me. So we were all looking at Storm and waiting for Lightning to wake up, I turned and nibbled upon her spine and then stopped and straightened myself off and made myself stand at full height and waited for Lightning to come, I was not going to run away this time or shake he did not really scary me any more I knew his tactic all to well now.

I looked at my watch. It was time to get Belle in and work Promise. I noticed that Blaze had undone the girth strap so I picked it up and swung it over the saddle. ''Come on girl. Time to go." I said. I gave Blaze a good bye pat then I gathered up Belle's reins and started to lead her away.

"No I'm not mad at all. Humans are strange sometimes." Stevie started to gather up my reins. "Oh well I gotta go. I wish I could stay but maybe I can come later." I said slyly. "Good luck with Mr. Atitude over there." I said looking at the now awake Lightning. Then Stevie led me away to the barn where I could watch no more.

Mmm. I was having the most wonderful dream of my life. I had just won the last jewel of the Triple Crown and was standing in the winner's circle, people marveling at what a great run it was. Then I heard Storm's voice and felt his little forelegs pounding my back. "What Storm? Daddy was having a nice dream." Then he excitedly told me the news. "What!" I screamed a challenging scream that hung in the air and reared staying in the air for a long time. "Storm you go over THERE." I said pushing him toward the far right corner of the pasture. "And STAY over there." I added firmly. He looked at me with wide eyes then scampered over to the corner, where he turned around and watched with pricked ears. Then I trotted over to Blaze, my laid back, head arched with mouth wide open, legs picked up higher than usual, muscles rippling, and tail flowing. I was going to give this stud a piece of my mind all right!

Oh no dont leave me with him, I nodded at her words and gave my full attention to Lightning who was coming with a gaping mouth. I backed and hopped the fence with ease, hell I was not going to deal with him locked in there, now look Lightning she feels the same way I do and at least its not Dancer I would never still your mate and love away from you, why would you do the same to me? Im not here to take your spot as top stallion or anything like that I just want a home and to love someone but if we cant get along then I dont know what Stevie will do. I snorted and backed away from the fence, I would go tell Belle I would love her forever but I could not stay here if this is how I was going to be treated.

"If it was Dancer", I groweled,"You would have been dead. It's Belle were talking about here. If you hurt her in any sort of way, if you break her heart your dead. You got that done for. I've know her for a long time, for most of my life. She's like a sister or mother to me and I'm not going to stand by and let you hurt her." I said tensely. I meant what I said. He was dead if he hurt her. I didn't care what Stevie would do to me but that stud would be dead if he hurt my Belle. I have know her for such a long time. We know each others secrets and we've helped each other out one time or another. It was my turn now to do her a favor. I looked back at Storm who was still wide eyed but at the fence. I bared my teeth. "I mean what I say Blaze." I said then waited for a response before I could even think about relaxing.

Blaze listened to his threats, he shook his head. You have my word, but if you dont hop that fence and go see your own love im going to have a few words with you, I stepped near him and bared my teeth. I dont plan on hurting Belle shes to good for that, however you seem intent on hurting Dancer. I snorted and raised my head, I mean it Lighting I had ran into Dancer she showed up at my old stable in the middle of the night looking for protection until she could find a home, you and Belle are like brother and sister, im like her brother you start treating her like she should, I dont care that you are two and she is five she deserves better, now move it! I squealed and reared landing with a thud, I trotted into the mare and gelding barn to see Dancer. I was shocked by her state but she looked stronger.

I was shocked to see Blaze in front of my stall. Oh brother Blaze, I did not even know you were here. She nodded when he said how and why he was here this was his new home. Blaze I was poisoned and now I am recovering, Lightning how is he I miss him I want to see him Blaze why does he not come see me? Has he moved on?

Shh calm down, all is fine we made some things clear, shh he will be here soon enough to see you. Dancer he loves you he has not moved on, I can see it. I smiled, Dancer I dont have all the answers to your questions hes young and I cant help that but I made it clear he is to treat you right, I dont want him sitting there and blaming his actions on his age, I have seen two year olds with a better mind set then he has, Dancer I promise if he hurts you any more I will take care of him myself, he will be put in his place just as quick as he has put me in mine. I smiled and said good bye and I trotted out of the barn and hopped the fence once more.

I was unsure. Should I obey him. Well of course I planned to see her soon but what if she didn't want to see me? I trotted back and forth on the front of the fence line thinking. After a while I stopped and groomed Storm quickly and watched as the grey stud hopped the fence. "Come Storm we are going to see your mother come on." I said cheerfully. Blaze had made some good points but not all were true. I charged up to him and bit his withers only enough to hurt. "That's for telling me what to do." I said and then jumped the fence after my son. Storm was skipping along and was very happy to go and see his mother but I was unsure how I felt. I was half dreading it half looking forward to it. Storm galloped into the barn his hooves skidding on the concrete. I trotted nervously into the barn. Storm was already talking excitedly to his mother, even though he was not tall enough yet to see over the door. I heard something about Belle and Blaze and the way I had acted. "Hello Dancer." I said, no emotion showing in my voice yet. I wanted to see how she felt about me before I said anything with more emotion into it. Storm shushed and looked up at me since he couldn't see his mother. I guess he was remembering the fight Dancer and I had when he was first born. He looked fearfully at me and I could see the tears starting to well up in his eyes. "Come here Storm." I said softly. He came and I wrapped my neck around his back. "Don't be upset now. Everything shall be fine." He whimpered but said nothing. I looked at Dancer. She was weak but I knew that the fire inside her was still there and that what mattered.

I squealed and snorted pawing the ground as he scampered off after his son. That stallion had a horrible mood and Dancer would sure put him in his place, there was a fire that burned deep inside that mare and I knew it and I was sure that Lightning knew to. I grazed contently and then went to doze under the sun in the corner of the far side.

I snorted more visitors, but I was overjoyed to hear my sons voice and then see Lightning but what I was told did not make me smile. I may be weak but Lightning was going to get it. I snorted and stood I could stand for longer periods of time, however I was still weak and could not push myself. Lightning im happy to see you but you need to be more accepting of Blaze hes a good guy and you are treating him like poo Lightning and I dont think Belle would be very happy with you if she knew that you had threatened him and were not accepting of there love, look it us she as learned to deal with it now I need you to be more accepting do it for me Lightning, I seriously thought I was going to die and never see you two again but I hate seeing my son cry and worry because you threatened to kill someone, I love you but I dont want to hear those words ever again. I circled and lowered my frame again, sighing I feel asleep.

I lowered my head a little more. "I'm sure Belle would understand. She knows me." Better than you do. I added silently. "I love you too Dancer." I added softly and watched as she fell asleep. I wanted to go see Belle and talk to her before she talked to Blaze but first I had to return Storm to the paddock. I struck the ground with my foreleg sparks flying as I did. "Come on Storm mommy's tired." I said. Storm only nodded and trotted out of the barn. I went after him and watched him slip under the fence. "Stay here and be good." I told him before galloping to Belle's pasture to see her. "Belle?" I called softly.

I was dozing under a tree and then Lightning called me. "Lightning." I said walking up to him. I nuzzled his cheek. "What's wrong? What did you say to Blaze?" I asked him. He told me the whole story fineshing with "I just don't want to loose you to him. Your one of the only things I've got that's like....family." I sighed. Lightning didn't think. He needed to think. "Oh Lightning. I'm not mad at you. Just please will you try to think about what you say before you say them." I said. "I understand how you feel about me. I care for you the same way. Things have changed a lot since we got here. You have Dancer and Storm. Maybe I'll have Blaze..." I looked deep into his eyes "But no matter what Lightning, nothing will come between us. We'll always have each other." I said. I nibbled at his mane and neck trying to soothe him. The little stallion had too much to worry about but this was one thing he should worry no more about.

I listened to Belle's words. "Thank you Belle. I'm sorry." I said. Maybe I'm not the one you should be saying your sorry to. She replied. I nodded but I was not looking forward to it. I said a short good bye before jumping the fence and returning to my own pasture. I trotted to a corner and stared out at the woods. What should I do to make everything right? I knew that I couldn't take back the words I said or my actions but there were a few words that I could say. I didn't want to but those few words could fix everything.

I shifted my weight and began to doze again, my dream was amazing. Me and Belle had a foal and I was done racing because I had won the triple crown and it was in the best so I did not hurt myself but people were questioning my return if I would run in the breeders cup classic? If I would even run again... I was awoke from my dream by a bee stinging me in the rump. I squealed and snorted galloping around the pasture until I saw he was in a corner I skidded to a halt quite aways away from him and turned around and trotted back to the very far corner I lowered my head slightly and became very quiet. I did not need him to be upset or angry at something else. I was already on strike two, I sighed quietly to myself and turned hanging my head over the fence. I did not even want to look at him in fear that it would set him off again. I flicked my tail lightly across my flanks and simply stared out at nothing, waiting for nothing in particular to happen.

I flattened my ears at his approach. I didn't need him to be around me right now. I pricked my ears and wondered what it might be like to be a wild horse. I knew that I could never becaome wild I would miss my life here too much. I pulse of anger ripped through through me and I struck out hitting the fence and cracking it. I squealed and struck out again but this time I missed. I reared and jumped the fence into the next pasture and started to run. I lost myself in the pounding of my legs and the wind in my face. I finally skidded to a stop and jumped the fence trotting cautiously yet boldly toward Blaze.

I herd squealing and a crack and I turned to see Lightning hoping the fence into the next pasture and running around and around, I soon fell asleep with my head hung over the fence and then I herd hoof beats and looked to see him coming towards me. No no not now I was in my own little part of the pasture and I was not bothering him, I swung my head over and turned and trotted up the fence line away from him, my heart was racing I did not want to die! I did not want to be bit again, I continued to move along the fence line until I was at the opposite corner, I relaxed only slightly watching his every move so I knew when I needed to hop the fence or move again.

I followed Blaze moving with him where ever he went. Finally I got tired of it. "Blaze don't you take another step or else I won't say to you what I need to say to you." I said with mixed emotions. I flicked my ears back and forth looking at Storms sleeping shape. "I'm sorry. For everything." I said slowly. "I'm just scared...afraid..." I looked at the ground. I just can't do this anymore! I thought. Everything! Dancer, Storm, Blaze, and just everything! Everything in this world seemed confusing and I seemed so...small! So insinificant like I was nothing anymore...

He kept up with every move I made, I snorted and shook my head as he told me not to take another step, I lowered my leg and hoof back on to the grass. Then he spoke, it sent me for a loop. WHAT THE HAS GOTTEN INTO HIM, I wanted to scream that out loud but I did not, I nodded and said, apology excepted, however you have nothing to worry about, you have nothing to be afraid of or scared of im not taking your spot, im just here to live out my days and do what I love which is to run and then come back and spend time with Belle and make her happy. I lowered my head and began to graze I hated being cornered and that was what he was doing to me, um if you dont mind could you back off a bit im starting to panic. I spoke and raised my head tossing it. Once I was more out of the corner we could talk more but for now, GET ME OUT!

I snorted. My nostrils quivered and I nickered softly to where it was barely auditable. I noticed that he was uneasy so I backed up giving him room. I guess he still saw me as the stallion who bullied others. I tossed my head and soft laughter cam from my maw. "Now don't you think that I wouldn't have said the same to any other stallion. Because I would." I said, my old self returning. I whinnied happily and reared leaping forward and going quickly into a gallop. I ran around the pasture bucking and kicking happily, ocassionally striking out a foreleg in play. I saw a black shape cantering over and I knew it was Belle. I stopped and reared before taking off again.

I whinnied a greeting and jumped the fence with ease. I started to gallop with Lightning, just for old times sake. I bucked and kick and whorled just like Lightning. We mimicked each others moves and did some of our own that the other tried to copy. Finally I tired and and slowed by Blaze. "Hi. How did it go?" I asked cautiously and then I panted a little, that had been a hard run but Lightning was still going at it.

I shook my head, he was a strange cookie, I watched him run around, kicking out and bucking he was happy now I guess. I snorted and just watched I did not partake in his games, I was still in shock but soon I shook my head and saw Belle was now in the pasture and she was mirroring his every move. She soon slowed and came up to me, I nuzzled her cheek. I guess you could say it went fine. I spoke, he did not eat me for lunch so as along as I am alive I see it as a good thing. I smiled and whinnied to Lightning to look, I could see Dancer coming out, Stevie was leading her. She seemed so strong, I looked at Belle, im happy she made a good enough recovery to come outside but we all know she wont be out for long. I spoke, shes like my sister I said to Belle. I nickered softly to Dancer and she gave a quiet one in return, she was released in her pasture and she trotted to the fence line and hung her head over, it was decided that I need some outside time. She spoke softly I nodded and I hopped Lightning was really happy now.
