Why thank you Dancer. Uh oh. I think she's going to find out a lot sooner than you think.
Lightning! Dancer! What have you done! I shouted. They had bred. I knew that mare was in heat! I just knew it! I shouldn't have tied Lightning near her. Oh now what am I going to do with the foal guys? I don't even know how I'm going to keep up with three horses let alone four! Oh Lightning Why did you do this to me! I wanted to hit hm over the head and he knew it as he shrunk away. I sighed. They didn't know what they did wrong. They just did what was natural. Oh guys I'm sorry for yelling. I know she was irrestable Lightning and that your hard to resist mystery mare but ya'll could have at least tried. Oh well what's done is what's done. I groaned. You two have left me in a tight spot. What am I going to tell Rae!

I shrunk into the fence pole as Stevie came out and started yelling, I nickered softly and hid my rump, I did not want to mess this up this is suppose to be my home. I looked over at Lighting I was not regretting it more so beating myself up for giving into my body’s wants. I shook as she continued to yell and then stopped, I looked at her with a look of sorry, I tugged at the belt it gave and I trotted into the barn into the stall that was open, rump pushed into the corner I hung my crown and whickered softly to myself as I tried to calm myself down.

Oh no what have I done! I shouldn't have done it but I just couldn't resist. I asked her permission at least. I hung my head as Stevie led me to the barn. I would jump out of the paddock fence later to see Dancer.
Oh Lightning. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I was just worried. Shocked too. But you are going to have the most beautiful baby in the world. I promise that I'll take good care of it. Don't worry. Now go have fun in your paddock while I go see the mares. As I walked over to the Mare barn I wondered what I was going to tell Rae. But I wouldn't worry about that right now. The most important thing right now was to make sure that the mystery horse was alright. I blinked my eyes at the dim light of the barn. I saw the mare in one of the emty stalls that I had gotten ready for her. Hey girl. I didn't mean to yell out there. I was just so shocked and stressed. Taking in another horse is a lot of responsibility and now you've given me four. I rubbed her check and sighed. Your a good girl ok. A really good girl. I'm the one who should be sorry not you. You'll have the most beautiful baby in the world. I will be right beside you every step of the way. Now let's see who you are. I reconized her halter as a show one. All show halters had names on the inside. I took off the halter and read the name on the inside. Midnight Dancer. What a beautiful name. Midnight Dancer I will love you forever and you will always have a home with me.

I was thinking the worse, that she was on the phone calling the action barn telling them to come get me. Thats at least what was going threw my mind when she did not come for awhile. When I was about ready to walk out and leave back to the trails until another human found me I herd the click of her boots and decided to stay, my ears pricked toward her voice and when she was done speaking she slipped my halter off, I worked my mouth back and forth and then paced the stall as she spoke my name I whickered softly to my own name. Now that introductions are done can I have that bath? I really wanted one and seeing she had not shut the stall door I was going to make my point right now, I nickered and bobbed my crown as I moved past her and out the open door, I positioned myself into the wash stall and played with the chain, that should do it right?

I laughed Dancer walked out of the stall and into the wash rack. Her nimble lips played with the chain rattling them trying to make her point. OK OK girl. We have to get your pretty tail unwrapped. I went over to Dancer's rear and unwrapped the sooty, pink wrap. Her long black tail fell to the ground. Oh wow girl your tail is really long. Now for that bath. I slipped on her halter which I had placed on the ground. Then I snapped the hooks onto the rings of her halter. Good girl let's spray you down now. I grabbed the hose and started to spray Dancer with it. Now for the soap. I quickly poured some on her dull, black coat marveling how quickly the suds turned black. Good grief girl you are a dirty horse. I laughed. Almost done. I sprayed the horse again getting all of the suds off. Now for your mane and tail. I lathered those too but her long black tail took a while. After rinsing that off and drying her as much as I could with a towel I was ready to turn her out. Alright girl let me get a lead rope. I walked quickly to the tack room where some extra ones hung. I choose a dark purple one and hurried back. Ready to go out into you paddock girl? Well then let's go! I had already unsnapped the hooks that led to the wash rack and clipped on the lead rope. I quickly led her into her stall and unclipped the lead rope. Then I patted her and walked out of the stall and bolted it behind me. Good girl. Go play now. I have to go and tell Rae your here.

She stood perfectly in the wash stall as Stevie washed her, she had learned that in her old barn. Seeing if she would have been finished there way she would have been a show horse. She was ridable it just meant they could finish her out in there sport. When Stevie was done, she herd the click of the lead rope and then was lead back into the stall, her tail dragging behind her, once in the stall the straw stuck to it like glue, she snorted and flicked her tail going to the stall door to look out as Stevie left. She whickered and then paced her stall, before sticking her head out of the door that lead to the paddock but she did not go outside yet, instead she checked every inch of her stall, her nose touched the shinny water dish, when she stuck her nose in it began to fill. She took slow sips and then once satisfied that there was nothing else to see in her stall, she walked outside, her crown lowered and she began to pull on green grass below her chewing contently as she looked around making sure she was safe.

I stopped pulling grass as Stevie went by me. I picked up my head but she didn't say anything. I knew she was deep in thought wondering what she would tell Rachel. It was safe to jump the fence. I went all the way around the paddock before cutting down the middle and jumping the far fence. Yes! I cleared it by a foot. No fence was high enough to hold me in. I thundered to the mare paddocks only stopping to touch noses with Belle and Juliet. Dancer! Are you there? I saw the mare and whinnied gleefully at her. We have a little time. Let's have some fun.

She whinnied to him and touched his cheek and then chuckled, cant we just enjoy each others company im far from a thoroughbred and there by for I am tired, there will be other times to have fun. She nuzzled his cheek and lowered her crown to nibble at the grasses below her, she raised her crown, that and you are younger then me. She chuckled again and looked at him with compassion, she nickered and then moved down to the end of her paddock before turning around and looking at him and waiting.

Fine my love. We'll just graze right here like old school horses. I have to go soon though. I have a feeling that Stevie will be returning soon. I gazed at her. I took a step closer to her and started to groom her lovely black coat.

She squealed taken back, I am not an old school horse fair from it, besides if you were a mare and you had to hold up not only your weight but the wait of a stallion covering you, you would feel the same way I do. I shook my crown and my pelt twitched as he began to groom my coat. I was begin to relax and doze off when I caught the sound of boots, Lighting she is coming! I squealed, nuzzling his cheek she spoke, you need to go before she sees you if possible come and see me at midnight or in the morning or tomorrow night just come! She trotted into her stall and turned so her rump faced the door but her head was out so she was looking at Lighting.

I didn't mean it like that, sweetie. I groomed her more and started to relax myself. Then I was jerked awake by the sound of boot and Dancers warning. I galloped off clearing the fence with a foot to spare and calling back. I'll come at midnight so be ready... I added hesitenly. Be ready my Midnight Dancer.

She bobbed her crown as in saying yes and then turned and entered her stall fully waiting for Stevie to come. She circled and laid down, flat on her side. She sighed and rolled and then there was that sudden cramp in her stomach, soon it was pain lots and lots of pain, she rolled again braking a sweat and all she could think about was this is colic she had been known to get it and the other thing was the foal but she figured it would be fine, it was only an egg moving about in a totally different area. She whickered and staggered to her feet only to fall back down, trying to stand again she could not. Her coat was covered in sweat and her breathing was quick, she laid there and waited.

Where was that stud! He probably went back to Dancer. I jogged quickly to Dancer's stall and opened it. Dancer.. Oh no! She was in a sweat and rolling on the floor. I grabbed her lead rope which was hanging on the outside of the stall. Come on girl, get up now! I had to get her up and walking. That was the only way she was going to live. Come girl you'll be alright. You'll be alright. I forgot about Lightning all I cared about was Dancer.

When Stevie entered, she was in so much pain she did not ever greet the women nor even try to stand, that was until there was tugging. She managed to stand but was wobbly and wanted to lay back down, she began to buckle her legs again to lay down but there was that tugging again and kept up right following Stevie like a trained puppy, head was as low as it could go, she continued to breath hard and build up more of a sweat, ears pinned slightly as she kicked her stomach and stomped her hoof into the ground afterward, she wanted the pain to stop!

Come on Girl you have to walk! I heaved on the lead rope and tugged her forward. That's a girl. The pain will stop soon. You just have to walk! I was trying to remember what to do with a colicking horse. My cellphone! I had to call the vet someone anyone! Dancer. Dancer don't roll, don't go down just stay standing! I have to call the vet. I dug in my pocket for the phone and started to dial the vet's number.
