A sigh was taken from her lips as she pulled into the driveway, trying really hard to not jostle Lady, her new found horse, in the trailer. It seemed that there were miles between the end of the driveway and now, but they were going by quickly. Rachael felt like turning around right now. But no, she couldn't. Not yet. What was the worse the owner could say, no? That didn't matter, she was still on a high from her investment. She couldn't wait to get her out of the trailer and to work with her and be with her...and just so much more! A smile lit her face as she thought about it, radiant for once in the dismal world she was used to. Finally, she was at the end and she parked. The sun stroked her as she jumped out of the truck and she jogged to the window, letting down the bars so that Lady could stick her head out. She came to the back and opened the back. Hey girly, we're hopefully at your new home. Lets get you out and stretch your legs a tiny bit. She said quietly, unlocking the barrier between her and the door and clipping on the lead line before bringing her out.

The sound of tires coming up the drive was the second thing Eddie heard. The first was Achilles as he rose from his place on the bales of hay in the stallion barn, barking and bolting out the doors. Crap. Eddie muttered, throwing down his brushes, leaving Winchester in the crossties as he ran after his wayward dog. Not that he was in anyway dangerous, just noisy. Add in the fact that he was quite a large specimen, and he looked a little scary. ACHILLES! He soon caught sight of the big doofus as he was barking a good distance away from a young woman leading a horse from a trailer. Upon seeing Eddie, he soon calmed down, sitting and thumping his tail on the ground, a big doggie grin on his face and his tongue hanging out one side of his mouth. Eddie shook his head, commanding Stay. Turning his attention to the young woman, he walked over to her, an embarrassed smile on his face. I'm sorry about that. He's actually quite friendly, he just likes to act the tough guy. He shook his head, his dark hair flopping a bit before he shook it out of his eyes and held out his hand with a smile. I'm Edward Jansen, owner of Maplewood. You can call me Eddie. What can I help you with? His eyes quickly took in the mare she had unloaded. Beautiful was the first word that came to mind. He wasn't exactly sure what breed, but definitely some sort of hunter or warmblood. A bored call sounded from the stable. Winchester had apparently not appreciated being left behind in the crossties. Eddie chuckled, glancing back before returning his attention to the girl before him.

The ride was quite nice the wind relaxed her as it came in the bared window. Soon she could see pastures and a barn and then they stopped and her new found owner and friend was at the window lowering it all the way so she could stick her head out which is what she did. But soon she was at the back and leading her out, Lady stood patently as a dog and a man came out of the barn, she was one to wait on her owner then be an obnoxious horse despite her spirited attitude. She stepped forward a bit and lowered her crown to check out the dog but finding no interest in it. She raised her crown and stepped back a call leaving the barn, she snorted and stepped further back, feeling as though the horse was a threat and that she had done something wrong to upset it.

It's alright, pretty girl. She cooed, leading her to the other side of the trailer and tying her up. She scratched her neck. Eddie, as he was now known, could be patient while she took care of Lady. Ah well, might as well give him something to chew on while she does. I'm Rachael Hardren, and I'm looking for a place to keep Lady, and hopefully a job. She said distractedly as she ran her hand once more down Lady's beautiful coat before coming around the corner. She did not know how she would act tied up so she made sure to stay close in case she decided to flip out. She looked over at the dog, wanting to pet it but letting it obey its master. What's his name? She added, nodding toward the dog.

Eddie watched as this Rachael girl tied up her mare to the trailer. A job, eh? He could give her that. And he could definitely give her a place to keep her mare, Lady. He had no boarders at all. The only horses he had were Winchester and Shaik with her foal Kyss. He smiled as she looked at Achies, who whined and thumped his tail, wanting to say hi, wanting to know his name. Eddie looked back, nodding and releasing him from the stay. Immediately, the big golden canine leaped up,trotting eagerly to Rachael, sniffing her hands and giving them a lick before commencing an complete examination of her, licking her pant as he went. Eddie chuckled before answering. His name is Achilles. I have plenty of room for your mare. I only have three horses right now, one of them is a foal. And as for a job, I can give you that too. Although, at the moment, it will be pretty simple, since there are no horses at the moment. As for pay, I can give you nine dollars an hour at the moment, with free boarding for your mare. Your pay will most likely increase once I get some steady income through boarders and the like. He gave her a swift smile, pleased to finally not be alone on his farm all the time.

She obediently followed her owner, enjoying the attention that she received. She was well behaved when tied but what she really could go for was a run. She snorted and pawed at the ground, wanting to run in the pasture anything but standing. She had done enough of that for one day, how ever she did not throw a fit simply trying to get her attention. Hopefully soon they would do something, Lady snorted again but remained still waiting for what her owner. Boredom soon began to take a hold, she tossed her crown, a whicker leaving her maw. Lady rubbed against the trailer before looking over at the two humans, she wanted to show them what she could do, what lay under this seemingly calm mare. Lady turned away from them looking out into the open fields before her.

That's fine. Okay, where to live on 9 dollars an hour. An apartment, maybe? Who knows. She'd figure it out, she always did. First, can we put Lady somewhere so she's not stuck out here? Before she breaks my trailer preferably. Who knew how much that old trailer can take. She went up and untied her, pulling her along. Soon enough she would be able to run and have a home and everything that would be better than her last. Soon enough... She muttered inaudibly to her mare, a small smile playing on her face as she stroked her cheek before turning back to Eddie. Where do you want her? Her voice back to all business. That's what she came for pretty much, a job and a business transaction.

Eddie let out a laugh as Rachael untied her mare, Achilles following her to check out the new addition. As she came around with Lady, he turned to the stables, pointing out the mare and foal barn. There were a few pastures attached to it, where Rachael could set Lady free. Right there is a mare and foal barn. You can let her go in any of the pastures attached to it. They're reserved for the residents of that barn. He started leading the way, Achilles bouncing along before him. He turned back to speak over his shoulder to Rachael. My mare and foal are in this barn as well. You can take any stall for Lady. Like I said, there is no one here yet. Winchester let out another annoyed call from the stallion barn, and Eddie could hear his hooves stamping against the cement floor of the barn. Hmmm, maybe he could let out Winchester. Hold on a sec. I have to get my stallion of the crossties where I left him. Make yourself and Lady at home. He trotted away, ducking into the stallion barn and quickly reaching Winchester, who nudged him happily in greeting. Unclipping him from the ties, Eddie held onto his halter, leading him out of the barn and into the pasture attached to the barn. Winchester, scenting the mares nearby, let out a call, trying to get their attentions. He showed off by leaping and racing around, his brindled coat shining in the sun. Eddie shook his head before jogging over to find Rachael and make sure she had everything she needed. He paused inside the mare and foal barn, walking to the stall Kyss and Shaik shared close to the door, reaching in to pet Shaik. He would have to let them out soon, if only because Kyss would destroy anything if she didn't run her energy out.

Lady snorted as her owner untied her, finally sweet freedom. She pranced along side her owner, going a little side ways she bobbed her crown. Then her owner stopped great more standing, she pawed the ground. Humans were so boring, she wanted to run not leap or anything just run, they started moving off to the mare barn when he released his stallion who let a call out and began showing off, stallions what was with them there was really no need to get there tails all up in a bunch. She snorted and continued to move along with her owner.

Rachael walked away from him and toward the pastures with Lady. She knew that this was what she wanted, and she did not want to delay her any longer. She opened the first gate that she came to and walked in, closing the gate a little behind them. Alright girly, this is your new home. I hope you like it. She unclipped the bridle and raveled the lead line around her arm, patting her neck before walking out, closing the gate behind her. She did not want to keep the Thoroughbred bored any longer, knowing that it had probably been a slow day to begin with. She hoped this would cheer her up a bit. She looked over at the stallion and giggled, they were always with a show. She walked in the barn, weathered boots bringing up puffs of dust with them. She ran a hand along a stall door as she saw Eddie over at another stall. She looked in and saw a Chestnut mare and foal there.
Shaik glanced around, noticing a newcomer there. She became tense, unknown if this person was here to take Kyss or not. She nuzzled the oncoming hand before letting him pet her. She didn't mind him, it seemed he wanted to keep them together. But this other person, she might have different plans, and the Quarter horse did not, no was not, going to let that happen. She looked over at the bright spot in her life.
I did not care that there were humans near me. No sirreeebob. I only cared that there was a new horse out there. I let out a whinny, trying to stretch out to look at her. Curiosity was in my eyes and I tried looking to see the stallion giving out a neigh to him. I pawed at the door, happy to hear the clanging noise that ensued. Maybe if I started digging, I could dig my way out and see this new person. Yeah, yeah! I started digging before looking over at Eddie and this new girl with angelic eyes, like I was doing nothing wrong at all. I looked out again trying to reach this new one. And hey, where was Achilles? I missed him and I needed a race.

Eddie smiled at Rachael before a digging sound caught his attention. Kyss was trying to dig her way out of the stall, while pretending she completely and totally innocent. Eddie heaved a sigh, reaching for the halters that were hanging next to their stall. Shaik seemed a little wary of Rachael, trying to shield Kyss, protecting her daughter. Eddie smiled, reaching forward and placing the halter over Shaik's head, before slipping quickly into the stall to attach Kyss's tiny halter to her head, clipping the leads onto the halters before opening the door to lead them out. Grinning at Rachael, he showed off his newest additions to Maplewood. Indicating Shaik, he said, This is Chocolate Shaik, she is very protective of Chocolate Kyss. Not that Kyss wants of likes it. Let me put these two out and I'll show you around, introduce you to my pretty boy over there. Clicking to Shaik, he led her out a side door, ushering them into the pasture beside Lady's, to allowing them to interact, but in case they didn't get along, they could stay away from each other. Achilles quickly followed, eager to play with Kyss. Closing the gate, he waltzed back to Rachael, punching her shoulder lightly before strolling to where Winchester was sunning himself, his head hanging a bit, banner whisking lightly. Eddie whistled, getting his attention. The affectionate stallion came to the fence, bumping it with his chest, knowing Eddie had treats and interested to meet the new human. Eddie rubbed his cheek, lightly playing with his lips, teasing the playful stallion. Looking back at Rachael with a smile, he indicated Winchester. This is my prize boy. Winchester 73. Matching name for his color. Brindle is one of the rarest colors. A Winchester 73 was one of the rarest guns. What do you think? He left his hand on Winchester's nape, while the brindle stallion licked sugar cubes from his hand, Eddie smiling happily at Rachael, watching her face to see what she would about his prize.

Lady pranced along with her owner, finally freedom was near. They walked into the pasture, the gate was shut a little behind them has she un did the bridle and pated her neck, walking out she closed the gate. Lady shoot off, running along the border of the pasture, she slowed once she reached were she had started and let a buck go. As she moved to the center, her muscles rippling under her bay coat which now had a thin layer of sweat. She tossed her head and stopped in the center and then hopped to the left and began to race around the pasture again. She had not done this for a couple of months but all her conditioning made up for it. She remembered doing this for hours with her mother and going down to the track to watch her parents that was until the stable went down hill. Lady watched as they gave attention to each of the other horses, she snorted and stopped in the middle and watched.

Rachael looked back in Lady's pasture and a smile lit up her face. Underneath all that sweetness and calm temper was the heart of a racer. She watched as she just tore up the pasture and she didn't have the heart to stop her today. It was a new place, a new home, and something better than what she was in. She then looked over as Shaik and Kyss were taken out of their stalls, and they were breathtaking. However, she just looked at them and then looked away, pretending to be disinterested and said, They're okay, but I've seen better. She looked at him, a joking manner in her eyes. She waited, leaning against the stall. Finally, he came back and she followed him out of the stable and saw the amazing stallion that graced her presence. He was gorgeous, and so different. You're a gorgeous boy and you probably know it too. She said, stretching out her hand to let him smell it once he was done with the sugar cubes because those always take precedence over a new human.
I looked over at the new human, but she wasn't as exciting as the new adventure they were going on today! I pranced next to mom, who wasn't going fast enough, or was that Eddie. Oh who cares. And Achilles was here, YAY! Finally, we were let out and I looked at the other mare who was racing around and I quickly joined her but then mom had to get in between us because, well who knows what mom is thinking she is just too overprotective. I stopped and looked for Achilles wondering where he was. If mom wasn't going to let me play with the new mare then maybe she would actually let me play with Achilles. I looked over, seeing Winchester and neighed to him. I knew him! I looked back over to the new mare and whickered to her too.
Shaik rolled her eyes. Her daughter. She could never say that she wasn't hers because they looked exactly the same. All of a sudden she was no longer by her side and she started getting panicky really quickly before noticing her racing the other mare. Her ears went back really quickly and she got between the fence and Kyss. All of a sudden Kyss stopped and she did too, bringing my head down to graze. She didn't care if she played with anyone else, but nobody knew this new mare nor the human who brought her in and she would have to wait until her mother approved of them before playing.

Sugar cubes gone, Winchester shifted his attention to Rachael. Investigating her thoroughly, the happy stallion gave her a nudge and a nuzzle before nipping Eddie and taking off across the pasture, bucking and leaping. Eddie shook his head before gesturing with his head away from the fence, tucking his hands into his pockets and strolling forward, glancing sidelong at Rachael, working up to actually starting a conversation. Shy boy that he was, not talking just about horses was a little difficult. So...where did you come from before this quaint little town? Good, good. Could have been better, but good. He watched her, unsure of who she really was, even though she was definitely friendly enough with the horses and Achilles. Now he was getting a little nervous, pulling one hand out of his pocket and running his fingers through his dark brown hair. He could see Achilles running around in the pasture with Kyss, barking at her and trying to get her to run and play. A smile crossed his lips, watching his big lug of a dog.

She was perfectly still not even a flick of her tail as she watched the motion around her, reminding her of her first race. Two horses were let out next to her and she wanted to go investigate the younger horse but the mother stepped in between giving Lady a clear message. Trotting up to the fence she hung her head on the other side checking out the mare before nodding her head slightly and going on her way, she trotted down the fence line a ways before stopping and dropping, she rolled from left to right and then back again, standing she shook her frame off and raced up the fence line turning sharply she kicked out and tossed her head, she bounded in the air all four hooves off the ground at once before she landed and came to another complete stop she snorted and lowered her head, before closing her eyes her bottom lip sticking slightly out as she dozed off.
