Annabel GoldbloomThe engine of Annabel's crappy old SUV whined as it tried to pull her small trailer up the drive to the large barn before her. Worry creased her pale, pretty face, and the skin around her blue-green eyes crinkled. Reaching forward, she patted the dashboard. Come on, Lumberjack, you can at least get me to this place before you crap out on me again. The old truck, seeming to respond to the 'affection' of its owner, whined a little harder, though it succeeded in getting up the drive and then sputtered out its life. Annabel sighed, leaning her head against the steering wheel. Looked like this was the very last journey for her old truck. Looks like she would have to get a new one, along with a job, and an apartment. Just one more expense. Hopefully she could work for Petey's board. Just as she thought of him, Petey let out an indignant call from the trailer, and a metallic bang issued from it as well. Stupid, demanding pony. Getting out of the SUV, Annabel banged the wall of the trailer back, opening the door and sticking her head in to meet the glare of the little Fjord. Sticking her tongue out at the pony, she ducked back out, leaving the door open but him in the trailer as she sought the owner of this stable. As she thought, she looked around, admiring the beautiful stable and the two homes, one smaller than the other, but both beautiful log cabins. It must be a wonderful place to live. Annabel sighed. At the moment, she would probably only be able to afford a crappy apartment. Another bang came from the trailer and she walked back to it, scowling in her cut off shorts and T-shirt. Slamming her fist even louder against the trailer wall, she yelled back at Petey, ENOUGH! Realizing she was being pretty loud, she looked around, looking to see if anyone was about to witness her fit.

Baylor was walking down the stable from his log home. He loved having his dreams come true in a valley that's so beautiful and so hidden from the rest of the world. Of course he had to put a sign up so people would find the place, but the thing that gave it away was the huge entrance made out of wood that said" King Creek Ranch". He loved this place and will never leave either.
Baylor walked through the back of the barn and walked between the epmty stall isle's. It really sucked that he couldn't get any of his horses down her so he could have a full barn. It would have to come later in life right know. Baylor was having a shipment of cattle shipped to him to start his cattle herd.
When baylor heard a noise outside the barn he walked a little faster. He did't think it would get here so fast. He only called them a few days ago and if they got here so soon he was impressed. Baylor reached the barn doors and saw a girl with cut off's banging the trailer door with her fist. This wasn't his load of cattle, but something else. Baylor looked at the girl as she turned around. He could tell she was mad at the animal inside the trailer.
Baylor gave her a smile and started to walk toward her alittle slowly." Having horse problems?" He gave her a smile and gave her a smile. By the looks of the trailer and the truck she was having more than horse problems. Baylor looked at the lady and raised his eyebrows." How may I help you?"

Oh dear, there was another person who was here. A handsome young man came out of the barn, and approached her. She looked down, blushing, as he came closer. She was so raggedy, her honey blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail, no make-up and in a crappy outfit, though she was still very pretty. And this guy was quite attractive. Typical cowboy too, it seemed. As he made a comment about her pony, she made a face, looking back at the trailer. You could say that. More like indignant pony troubles. She sighed, looking back at this handsome man. My name is Annabel Goldbloom. I was wondering if I could board my horse here, and perhaps a job? She ended it as a question, as she was a little nervous about asking, as this would decide what she could do from here on in. And also, she wasn't sure if her truck would make it to another barn. Annabel looked down, scuffing her flip-flop clad feet against the ground before Petey finally let out such a demanding call that there was no way she could leave him in there any longer. With a growl, she whipped around and stalked to the trailer, throwing up the doors and entering, pushing him back down the ramp. The cute little brown dun Fjord pony looked at her smugly. And she just glared at him. But then she sighed and ruffled his upright mane, the black stripe in the center appearing and disappearing as she disrupted the pattern. The pony nudged her happily, apologizing for being a jerk. Realizing she had been a bit rude, she turned back to the unknown man. I'm sorry about that. My trailer is damaged enough without him beating the crap out of it in there. She smiled apologetically at him, rubbing Petey's nose as the pony lipped her shirt.

Baylor looked at the girl and smile. It was alot different seeing a girl with flip flops on a ranch. Baylor looked down out his boots and back up to the girl. He wasn't sure if he could give a girl a job here on a ranch. Baylor looked at the pony as it backed out of the trailer. Baylor smiled and bit his lip. He has seen horse's like this, but only in book's and open show's back home. He has never seen one up close before. He study the pony and loved the coloring of the horse and looked at the girl name Annabel Goldboom." Im Baylor Chadwick. I could give you a job, but can you handle ranch work? I don't take in english riders as you can tell I have nothing to give them. I have an arena and stalls, but a horse here has to learn to work just as hard as the owner does." Baylor didn't want to sound harsh, but right now he didn't have any horses, but cattle was coming. Plus this girl didn't have much as the way it looked.
Baylor took of his hat and smiled at the girl." I'll give you a job. Your horse can stay either in the pasture or the stalls. Once, I get more horses to get in here you will have more work. I have cattle coming in here soon. So, once I get my horses we will go out and check cattle." Baylor looked over at the horse then looked at the bunk house and back to the truck." I heard your truck. You can stay here in the bunk house until you can get your truck fixed.I'll help you fix it aswellas your trailer." Baylor was a nice guy and didn't mind helping out other's."So. You got a job."

A grin spread across her face. A challenging one, as well as a happy one. She gave Petey a quick pat before leading him to the trailer, tying him to one of the rings so she could move freely with out him. She walked right up to Baylor and stretched out her hand. Deal. I've always been a Western rider, no worries there. Petey there may look like a typical fat pony, but he's smart, and has been used around cattle before, or so I was told. She followed his gaze as he glanced at the smaller house. Oh thank God, he was giving her a place to stay. She had been sleeping in the back of the SUV since she got here, which was two days ago. All her money was going to Petey, as he was more important to her than her own comfort. And her truck was toast. But he offered to help her work on it. She knew some about cars, having watched her dad fix her first car all the time at home, and listening as he rambled on in answer to her quick questions, but there was no way she could fix her own car. Engines were a mystery. History was her big thing, along with horses. She noticed as he glanced down at her feet. Flip flips. Not the greatest first impression. She had been in a bad mood when she got up this morning, and grabbed the easiest pair of shoes she could. All her baggage was in the truck, Petey's tack was in the mini tack room attached to the trailer, so she was pretty much set to move in and get ready to work, except for the fact that he said there were no other animals there. Hmm. Whatever. Glancing back up from the ground, she smiled at Baylor. What do you want me to do first, boss? Okay, so she was a little cheeky. Want me to change out of flip flops? A little odd to be wearing around horses, I know. She made a face, picking on herself so he didn't have to do it for her, before she grinned again at Baylor, her sense of humor rising as she became a little more comfortable.

Baylor looked at Annabel and smiled at her. Glad to have a western rider here an not english rider. He looked toward the stable and back to her."No problem. He will lose the weight as he begin's to work." He smiled agian and shook her hand. Baylor wasn't sure what to do right now. He didn't have to work himself, but since he has a good looking woman here and her horse might aswell show her around.' Well first you can all be Baylor not boss. Second get your horse settled. Place him in one of the paddocks before you place him in a stall. I'll take your tack to the tack room and get a stall ready. Just make yourself at home in the bunk house." He smiled and pat the horse on the rump and walked over to the tack area and grabed the saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. He had the saddle on his shoulder and was caring it and began to walk toward the barn caring everything to the tack room and set it on a rack. He grabed a bucket and took it to feel it up with water. This place was old school. You had to feel up your buckets and clean everything.
Baylor walked back to the trailer and looked at the place. He still loved this place no mater what happens. The horse might not be his type of animal, but if he can work for a living he will win a spot in his heart. He looked over to Annabel and watched her. Her hair was so beautiful and well he couldn't help but not stare at her.

Woo! A room! Annabel grinned, though a little startled that he grabbed her tack and went to set up a stall. Very gentlemanly. Extra points to his already above average score. Walking back to the snoozing Petey, she poked him to wake him up, untying the lead and walking him over to the closest pasture gate. Come on, fat boy. Go get settled in there, while I get settled in the bunk house. Annabel shooed the pony through the gate, walking in with him and shutting it behind her to ensure he wouldn't slip out. Unclipping the lead, she gave him a pat on the cheek before giving him ample rump a light tap to send him prancing across the pasture. Annabel laughed as she watched him before climbing the fence, not bothering with the gate, jumping down from the top to land surely on her feet and skip back to her dilapidated truck to grab her bags. Opening the door, she noticed Baylor standing nearby and smiled at him before turning back to her bags and slinging them over her shoulder. She made her way to the bunk house, glancing over her shoulder at Baylor before opening the door and slipping inside. It was much, much brighter inside that it looked, with windows allowing light to come in well. Selecting a room from the three, she chose one that looked out on the pastures and set her bags down on the bed. Once she had dropped everything, Annabel went rummaging through her things, grabbing a pear of torn jeans and her leather boots. They had seen much use, but were tough and durable, perfect for this kind of work around a farm. Shutting the door, she changed bottoms quickly before skipping back outside, elated by the fact that she had a job and at least a temporary home.

Baylor watch as she went inside the bunkhouse and he went back to work in the barn. He grabed a couple keys that was set inside his office and went around back to grab a the truck he drove. It had a bale of bay to set out in the cattle pasture's. The shippment should be here soon. So maybe they could go out and catch them before they unload them all. He wanted to get a good look at them before setting them out into the pasture's. Baylor drove around toward the bunkhouse and jumped out of the truck and ran up to the door and nocked on the door. Waiting for her to answer the door he saw the horse out in the pasture. He smiled and couldn't wait to bring his own horses home too.

Annabel stood in the middle of the small living room, examining everything, for it was the perfect vantage point to see pretty much the entire house. It was well furnished, comfortable, but not exactly luxurious. The perfect place to come home to after a day of working the ranch for a shower, food and sleep. Annabel smiled as she looked out one of the windows, watching Petey wander around the pasture, exploring and getting acclimated to this new surrounding. She wondered when the cattle and horses would arrive. That would be when the real fun began. She couldn't wait, her hands tingling in anticipation. With a deep breath, she calmed her nerves. Hopefully Petey would be up for the cutting and riding about with the cattle. They had told her he had some experience, but sometimes she was dubious when it came to purchasing a horse and getting only an oral history, not a written one. And Petey was certainly not what you'd think a cow horse would look like. But, hey, he would learn quick. A light knock jarred her from her thoughts. Turning, she could see Baylor outside the door, waiting for her. Taking her hair out of the ponytail, she walked to the door, opening it and leaning on the door jam, raking her fingers through her hair to get it out of her face. She would put it back up soon, but she just needed her head free for a few minutes. Need something? She smiled at Baylor before leaning around him to see the truck with the hay on the back. Looking back at him, she walked completely out the door, shutting it behind her. Adventure time? I'm game. She flashed a playful grin at him as she came further from the door, waiting for him to lead the way.
