Pablo nudged Fuego onward, past the pair, being careful to make sure that he didn't do any stupid stunt. This is El Fuego. He's more of a competitive trail type. I also have a Peruvian Paso mare who does the gaited classes but I used to teach... To teach Eve, he was about to say, but decided to end it right there. I could never get into Western Pleasure, it is just too slow for me. I like the speed. No not like, love. The birds overhead flew out of the trees toward the sun, finding a new home or food. Have your parents' farm given out any champions? He asked conversationally, wanting to know more about where she grew up. He jiggled the reins a little bit, bringing Fuego's attention back to the ride and out of the grass. Yes, it looked good. Yes, he would probably like to eat it. But no, Pablo didn't feel like picking little grass bits out of the bit later.

She listened to him, well he seems like he makes an amazing competitive trail horse and as for your mare I would have to meet her sometime. She followed along sort of in the back but still on the side, Well I like slow and fast, barrel racing is probably my favorite all though it is nice to have Western pleasure for more of a relaxing thing. She sighed as the walked along in silence until he spoke, My parents farm has given out some champions in both divisions, Spirits dad is probably there most prized but last time I talked to them there stallions standing had grown to eleven but everyone is pleased from when they arrive to when they leave, they always have mares coming in and going out from other stables barrel racers and Western pleasure owners want a Moore farm baby but we are not the top farm. She smiled does that answer your question a little bit it’s a tad hard to explain it all I even got confused when I was younger, she laughed and then smiled, moving Spirit to the side of Fuego, so you said you got him from your parents do they have a farm? She looked at him and waited.

No I could follow you. He nodded, keeping an eye on the trail. All he needed was a chipmunk to run across and then...well, remember last time. Yeah, they own a farm down in New Mexico. They breed mainly Spanish Mustangs, which is what this brat is. Sweets came from them too from their couple of Peruvian Pasos. They give out good horses, but they usually just do it because they love horses. When they started they never were going into breeding. But they had an amazing stallion, and word of mouth started spreading and well here they are now. Fuego could have been a good stud for those that wanted a trail horse, but then there would be no handling him. He was a better gelding anyways. Clouds hovered over the sun, which finally made the heat go away. It felt good after the winter, but sometimes even a slight breeze would be a nice change. Sweets is a caring mare. She's a young one, but she's the most gentle creature I've ever found around kids. A shadow of a smile passed across his face but he kept it hidden. The past was always a wonderful thing to travel into, but he needed to stay in the present.

Sammie was a good listener, listening to him she could tell he was a lot like his parents. Well your parents seem very nice along with there farm and word vie mouth travels fast I know that from experience, as for sweets she sounds amazing truly a one of kind horse and he cant be that big of a brat or can he? She smiled and relaxed a little more on the reins, seeing Spirit was relaxing all though could not let the reins go completely or he would shoot off like some one had touched something hot to his rump. She shook her head, I don’t know there’s nothing really to say about Spirit besides don’t coop him up or its going to be ugly.
She had learned that lesson multiple times but we are not going to head down that road. She sighed hoping that nothing would jump out because that would not be fun at least not again. Sammie decided to say what had been on her mind sense he had spoke about his parents farm, you seem a lot like your parents you seem like your a person who always has the good of the horse in mind and I really like that. She know felt embarrassed and blushed a little but he would have not seen it, Sammie moved her hand to stroke Spirits neck Wondering what he would say.
Just as she was beginning to think nothing would happen something moved in the bush and Spirit hit the brakes, the rabbit hopped out and Spirit reared, Sammie held on but Spirit was not done yet he shoot off like a rocket and she grabbed part of his mane to hold on better as she tried to get him to stop one of the reins snapped probably from the last time he ran off, all she could think was bad timing.
Spirit easy boy it was a rabbit not a snake there is no reason to be pulling this very stunt. That had no effect and to boot a lake was coming up, she counted as they neared it and then he stopped hind tucked under him as though he was a reining horse. Sammie jumped off before he could go wandering in going deeper and deeper until he was swimming, you brat if you wreck my saddle im not going to be very happy he just kept swimming, fine be that way, she went and sat under a tree watching her horse.

He smiled, just a shadow of a smile on his serious face at his compliment. He never really thought about himself to be like his parents. As he recalled his parents had called me irresponsible and other things when he got his girlfriend pregnant. After a while they let up, but they weren't still too pleased. Especially seeing as he was fighting for his daughter back when he had no money and no means to support her. At least the mother was down there with little Eve where the caring can be given to the grandparents too.
Torn out of his thoughts at the abrupt stop of both Fuego and Spirit, he looked over in time to see a rearing stallion and then all of a sudden just a blur. This time he kicked Fuego into high gear. He didn't know what Spirit would do if they were right next to him and particularly didn't want to find out. He saw the limp rein and knew there was no control, but there was nothing that he could do. As they came toward the lake, he pulled him to a stop as he watched, a humored smile on his face, as they went farther and farther in before she finally got off. He dismounted, walking over and sitting next to her. I'd let you go and join him but I like my saddle. He looked over at Sammie, a little bit concern in his eyes. Are you okay? He didn't want to laugh just yet until he knew for sure because he didn't want to laugh at her pain.

Im ok my saddle on the other hand might not be. She could not help but laugh as her stallion swam around in the lake giving not a care to the humans watching him, well good thing is that its my not nice saddle and that I have a couple other not nice ones, how ever that bridle use to be nice until the rein broke and now its wet. He finally seemed to take notice and came back to shore, dripping wet. He stood there and she removed the saddle and set it on the ground, the bridle and pad were next and then she just let him go. Might as well its going to be a bit before my saddle is some what dry. She sat down out in the sun and propped herself up on her elbows, why don’t you join me. She smiled and patted the ground beside her waiting to see if he did.

He grinned before chuckling a little bit. They're just material items though, so its alright. His face was not used to grinning, more used to the frown of a depressed person and a worried one at that. Fuego looked over a little yearningly toward Spirit before looking over at Pablo, as if trying to send him a message. He rose, only taking the bit and reins off seeing as it was a halter-bridle combination. He didn't want him stepping on the reins but he needed something to catch him by. If you make me regret this, you won't be happy. He muttered, sliding the saddle off and setting it down gently. See, I could leave now because my horse was sooo good and decided against running in the lake. He stated, looking over at her jestingly. He patted the chestnut neck before he walked off, head already toward the ground and looking for anything good. Pablo deliberated, as if he was seriously considering going and sitting back down in his original spot. He ran his hand through his black hair before finally moving over and sat down next to her.

she smiled very true its not like its his first time wrecking a saddle but it does get annoying at some point. She laughed turning to look at her horse who was standing in the shallow part pawing at the water, when she herd his remark she looked at him and rolled her eyes, shut up like I told you he has a fetish with water my parents never understood it. Sammie watched as he sat down next to her, I wont bit at least not hard. She laughed im only joking don’t worry I would never do that to anyone except to get away from my brother. She laid back putting her arms behind her head, after all that’s what siblings are for and he just has to be so mean about everything. She sighed and turned her head so she could just see her water and her horse standing there splashing himself.

So you have siblings? He asked, interested. He looked back at her, a small smile on his face. He looked over at Fuego who was in the weeds, probably looking for the clover that he was so addicted too. He lifted his head and Pablo could already see some burrs stuck in his mane. Oh tonight was going to be a nightmare. Have you lived here long or are you a newcomer? He asked, looking back at her before before checking on both their horses. Spirit seemed to be having his own childish fun while Fuego was seeking something out. Don't get yourself stung! He called over to him, he did not want to deal with a freaking horse without something to hold onto. He looked up, letting the sun hit his tan face, soaking in the warmth before looking about again at the greenery. He fiddled with a weed between his fingers, that small smile still on his face.

She turned back to face him, yep I have two a brother and a sister, she’s younger and he is only six months older and let me tell you they are a pain. She looked over at his horse who was in the weeds, she laughed a little, Spirit seeing this thought it was more fun then the water and left the water to join him oh great. Oh no im a new comer I lived in Kansas before this. She smiled and watched her horses head raise there were burrs in his mane, forelock and tail, are you kidding me, that is going to be fun to get out, he trotted out and over to a tree and began to rub on it and then just like that he looked up and found that it was an apple tree, oh he was going to be in heaven, he reared and knocked apples off the tree, crunching nosily on them. She looked at Pablo watching him fiddle with a weed, are you nervous about something? She watched him fiddle with the weed and then noted the small smile was still on his face, she waited.

I looked over at her, the small smile still plastered to my face. No, not really. I said, my 'r' rolling as my Spanish dialect slipped out. I did nothing to try and cover it up or nothing. I noticed her for once. I noticed her blond curls and how they matched her face perfectly. I looked away quickly, looking back at the horses. Oh yes I see a lot of fighting going to occur tonight between me and Fuego. I did not want to look at Sammie like that, I just met her. Okay, back to my unhappy place. Remember Eve and the divorce and moving away. The smile slid off my face as I remembered that. I had vowed to not be happy until I got Eve back. A sigh slid out and I finally laid back with her. Just relax, that's all that I needed to do right now. I'm such a masochist sometimes.

I was just checking, sitting up I was thinking about having to drag Spirit away from his new found apple tree, he was already on his seventh one it was bound to make him sick, I looked over at him I have to go get him he is on his now eighth apple and he’s going to get sick from all of them. I stood and grabbed the broken rein, walking over to Spirit I grabbed his nose and made a make shift halter, that is plenty of apples for you any more and you are going to have an upset stomach, smiling I clucked and led him away, letting him go once we were away from the apple tree he seemed to get the idea and grazed contently in front of them, you would think he is a monster the way he eats. Sitting back down I laid back he seemed to become distant and his smile faded from his face, ya maybe there will be fighting who knows. Sighing I closed my eyes looking away from feeling like I had caused this or something and it felt like we were relapsing back to the trail ride.

I felt sorry because I could tell that I was pulling away from her and it seemed like she did not like it. It hurt to hurt her, but at least she would be far enough away from me that maybe if something was to happen and I was to relapse back into depression she would not be close enough to be hurt by that. Fuego could care less about the apples, I could tell. Whenever he lifted his head up, it looked like there were more and more rollers in his hair. I sighed. I didn't know what to say to try and make this better, but it wasn't right. I had to learn to be a little bit more relaxed, especially around people. I'm sorry. I said, glancing over at her before closing my eyes. What was I going to do to make it up to her for the way I just acted, I didn't know.

I listened as he said sorry, its fine. I spoke my eyes were still shut that was until I felt something tickled my face and I screamed and opened my eyes to see Spirit right there, You almost gave me a heart attack boy and I don’t think you want that right? I scratched his nose and he closed his eyes, these were the moments I loved but now I could see all the burrs and they were every where, some parts were so thick I could not see his mane, now I really wished I would have braded his mane and tail. I sighed as he laid down next to me, his head next to mine, I reached over and began to pull some of the burrs out but soon stopped and put my hands behind my head, I really did not mean to come off rude before its just I hate the feeling after everything. I shook my head we were not heading back down that road, I looked over at my horse who was dozing under the late afternoon sun, waiting to here what he had to say.

I looked over at her before rolling onto my stomach, propping myself on my elbows. I looked over at her horse and rolled my eyes. Oh yes, Fuego would be a complete joy to deal with. I listened to her intently, hoping I did not hurt her too much. I didn't mean to, and my brown eyes showed it. I just knew how to distance myself now, and it was very easy to do. I would rather keep everyone at a distance than bring someone close and get hurt again. Or even worse, hurt them. I let a few moments of silence spread between us, letting us both dwell in our own thoughts. Sometimes silence was always great, and sometimes it could be awkward. Once silence ensued, everything could be heard from the fish in the lake to the squirrels in the trees. A few minutes broke, and then his voice broke the silence. I'm sorry. If you ever want to talk about it, I'm here. He said quietly, looking down at his hands before looking back at her.
