I soon settled down into a nice nap. When I woke up Daddy was running around the pasture but not as furiously as he had been. I looked around for Mommy. I figured that she would be grazing in a corner away from Daddy and then trot over when she saw that I woke up, then forbid me to go see Daddy. I sighed. Then I looked all around. Mommy wasn't here! I started to whinny for her and run around the fence. Daddy didn't notice me running along the fence where the woods were. He just kept running, almost blindly around. I finally stopped crying for her. I knew that if I wanted Mommy back I had to go after her! So I did my usual thing and slipped under the fence, unnoticed and seemingly unloved. It took a long time for me to calm down. Maybe I had overreacted like a child throwing a tantrum. Matter of fact that was what I was doing: Throwing a Tantrum. It was childish and I shouldn't have done it. I had heard the foal crying for Dancer which meant she was gone. Storm had stopped crying for Dancer so he must be napping. I looked into the paddock. I didn't see him. I jumped the fence and searched it. No foal. Knowing that he had gone under the fence in search of Dancer I jumped it and followed Storm's scent.

I went deeper into the cave, were I was it was raining masking my scent with easy. I circled on a bed of moss and lowered my frame, tail wrapping around my legs. I sighed and lowered my head. I soon began to doze, unaware that my son had left the farm and unaware that Lightning was following him. She just wanted to be alone right now and run away, she was done being a mother and done with every thing at the farm, she was going to ditch this halter and become wild but she would never be able to become wild because she could not stand to be away from humans, she stood and began to pace not because she was missing her son but because she wanted human touch and such. She snorted and stopped, lowering her frame and and once again falling asleep with ease despite it being cold.

It was feeding time and Lightning, Storm, and Dancer were the last ones to be fed. I wondered why I didn't hear Lightning and Storm putting up a fuss together for there feed, Storm just copied his dad, or Dancer rattling the gate trying to get me to hurry up with the grub. I whistled again wondering if they would respond to that. I reached the paddocks and looked around. No horses. Not any where. I cussed and kicked the dirt in frustration. Fine time they choose to have a family outing! I ran to where Belle was standing ears pricked and ready for action. I swung open the gate and she trotted out, going toward the mare and gelding barn. I made sure the gate was closed, not wanting to let another horse get out and ran after Belle. "Mommy!" I called. "Mommy! Please come home! We're sorry! We love you mommy!" I stopped and whinnied loudly. I was scared, alone, and lost. And it was about to get dark! I kept walking and calling repeating the same message over and over again my voice getting hoarse. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] | [atrb=background,http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq95/amanda1472/horses/dfqy5gkg-1-1.jpg] It was quite easy for me to find with him calling out like that. "Storm! Thank goodness that I found you first! Do you know what kind of dangers are out here?!" I grabbed my son in a horse hug. "Come on we'll find your mother and bring her back. All will be well. Don't worry. Now come on this way!" I said. I trotted out of the woods into a clearing where there was the remains of and old stable then I followed Dancer's scent to where she was...

Lightning! Dancer! I thought furiously. I couldn't be mad at Storm, after all he was just a baby. I stamped my foot as Stevie mounted. Then the whorled me toward the woods and off we went! I galloped almost as fast as I could dodging trees and such. Stevie was leaning over my neck, jockey style and I surged forward finding more speed.
"Belle speaks!" Belle thinks! |
[/sub][/blockquote]

"Go Belle! Fast as you can!" I urged the mare faster and she gave it to me. I could trust her. She was the only horse I could trust not to run away from the ranch. I was heading toward Dancer's old stables knowing somehow that she had gone there. I had a rope with me to lasso Dancer. I knew that Storm would follow Dancer and Lightning would just follow me because he was in trouble. Belle went into a perfect sliding stop, not that I ever taught her that, where the charred stables stood.

So I had left the cave and was once again wandering around my old stable, I had grabbed a photo album that had all my pictures in it, I loved this owner he had made a photo album of each of the horses most of the items had been gathered up by new owners but mine still was here and it had made it threw the fire. I nudged the book and then picked it up by my teeth and lifted my head, I trotted over to where I had herd something and it turned out to be Stevie and Belle, I did not know the mare well I wish I did but im sure she hated me now. I snorted, I still had the book in my mouth there was no way I was leaving this behind, I walked to the side of Belle and just manged to set the book down on Stevie's lap, I did not need to be roped I would follow just fine, I was to tired and now disappointed because I could smell Storm and Lightnings scent. I sighed and lowered my head before looking around the place one last time, I was ready to go now.

I trotted happily along my Daddy's side, though I was only happy on the inside. I whinnied eagerly when I saw Mommy. I ran to her side, rubbing againest her and jumping up to reach her mane. Stevie and Belle didn't look to happy... [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,400,true] | [atrb=background,http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq95/amanda1472/horses/dfqy5gkg-1-1.jpg]
I kept my pace trotting after Storm. I wasn't all that eager to see Stevie or Belle, let alone Dancer. I nickered to Stevie and looked apoligetically at Belle, who was looking very angry. I looked at Dancer. I just looked at her. I didn't know what else to do. Well I did but I wouldn't like it. I knew I wouldn't have any other chance but now to tell her what I was going to say next. "Dancer I'm sorry. The way I acted was childish, foolish. I just feel that sometime you don't remember that I'm just a little older than a foal. You treat me as if I'm just...well...an adult stallion who's had millions of foals, instead of one who's just learning. I'm still learning about this world in many ways. I'm just a foolish colt who doesn't deserve a wonderful mare like you. Or a son like Storm." I said sadly. I looked down at the little colt who was still rubbing againest her and pulling at her mane.

I flattened my ears and bared my teeth at the two, being careful to smile at the foal. "Do you know how much trouble you two have caused me?! I haven't even fineshed my dinner yet! Instead I had to come looking for you two in kingdom come! You both own me big time for this!" I snapped. I swished my tail and kept my ears firmly pinned againest my head. I was ready to go so I turned and started walking toward home.
"Belle speaks!" Belle thinks! |
[/sub][/blockquote]

I patted Dancer and thumbed through the book that she had put on my lap. Hmm these were all photos of her. I looked up and saw Storm and Lightning come out of the woods. They joined Belle meekly...Storm being the only one that was happy. Belle was squealing and stamping her foot, unhappy more than likely that she had to come out and find these two before she fineshed her dinner. Then she started walking toward home. I let her, I knew she was eager for her food. I nudged her into a trot and soon we were at Last Hope again.

She stepped away from her colt and listened to Lightnings words, she shook her head. I just need some time ok Lightning I was not exactly ready for this either. She snorted and followed Belle home, when they reached home, she hopped the fence and went into her paddock, over to the farthest corner looking away from Lightning paddock, her son slipped under and she would not allow him to nurse from her. She simply pinned her ears and bit him on the rump sending him in a fit and sending him away from her. Her back legs were also just so, so that he could not get under to nurse, as her food was poured she did not touch it. She just looked at it. It would have seemed the mare had slipped into something similar to depression, and yes it was her own form of horsy depression. She lowered her head as the rain began to fall, she did not care if she stood out in it. She simply waited for Stevie to notice, that a she was not letting her colt eat and b. it was raining. She nickered slowly and waited.

"Mommy! I'm hungry! Why won't you let me nurse?" I whimpered as she bit me once again on the rump. I skidded away and tried again. The same process was repeated. I finally got tired of it and rears, pounding her with my forehooves then darting away before she could cause me pain.
I put Lightning in the barn and gave him his feed then went after Dancer. She had jumped the paddock fence and Storm had followed her gleefully. When I had finally reached the paddock it was pouring down rain and I could hardly see. I opened the gate, swinging it wide but it banged shut as the wind blew harder. I found Dancer and clipped a lead rope to her halter and led her to the barn hoping that Storm was following. I threw open the barn and led the two wet horses in the their stalls. I unclipped the lead from Dancer's halter. Then I filled up the hay rack and noticed that Dancer was not letting Storm nurse. Anytime he tried she would bite him on his rump, sending Storm in a fit. After a few minuates Storm reared and battered her with his little hooves. Then he skiddered into a corner of the stall fearfully. "Dancer. What's wrong girl? You have to let your foal eat now." I said slipping into the stall and grabbing Storm, pushing him to his mother's side. "Come on now." I said. I thought that maybe if I could push Storm underneath her that maybe she would let him nurse...if not I would have to bottle feed him until she let him nurse again.

As we entered the barn, things got sketch, I was not going to budge he was not nursing from me! I squealed as she shoved him alongside me and I moved away, pawing and rolling my eyes back so the whites showed. I half reared and landed, kicking out so I struck the wall. My head raised and nostrils flared another squeal was emitted from me, I moved again so there was no possible way for her to make him eat from me, I was done! I kicked a shod hoof out at the wall again it made a contact a loud sound was followed soon after. The whites of my eyes still showed, as I moved away and turned my head up at my own son. I wanted nothing to do with it, I charged at both of them forcing Stevie to take him and herself out of the stall. My ears pinned and I trotted around my stall occasional charging the door. I whinnied and then collapsed in the middle of my stall, my insides burned curse that man and his pointy thing.

Storm whimpered fearfully in my arms. I was holding him outside of Dancer's stall. Storm wanted his mother but I couldn't put him back in the stall for the fear he might be crushed. Storm let out a little cry and then a full fledged wail, of the sorts, struggling in my arms. "Easy boy. Calm down your mother will be fine in a few minuates. Calm down." I said soothingly. As soon as he stopped struggling I pushed him into a stall next to Dancer. I watched as Dancer trotted around the stall, ocassionally charging the door. Then she whinnied and collapsed in the middle of the stall. Just like that out of the blue she collasped. I knew she wasn't tired. Something was wrong. "Dancer!'' I said slowly, softly. Storm let out a stallion scream, sorta, and started to run in a panic around the stall. What had happened to the mare what's wrong with her? I waited to see if she would get up, if it was just a misstep. Oh please just let it be a misstep!

I whinnied and tried to stand but my balance was off, I fell just as quick as I had stood. I looked up at Stevie pleading for help in any sort of way. I nickered and then before I knew it I could not do that any more and I felt sick and crazy. I could not raise my head, stand, call out. Breathing I could still do that but barely. I looked up at her and then closed my eyes I was becoming very very sleepy either that or this stuff that was making my insides burn was making me tired. I did not even get to close my eyes before I slipped out of it completely the world becoming black.

"Dancer!" I cried as the mare fell for a second time. Something was definatly wrong. I rushed into the stall and felt her skin. It was hot to the touch and she was hardly breathing. "Oh Dancer. What's wrong girl? I wish you could talk!" I said frustrated. The mare was out of it, compleatly unconcious. I bit my lip and tried to think what to do. The vet. I needed a vet but could the vet reach us out in this storm? I called anyway leaving a message for him to come as quickly as he could. Then I went to get some water and rags, to cool Dancer off.
"Mommy! Mommy! What's wrong!?" I was crying out to her but she wouldn't answer back. I saw the human run off and I tried looking in the stall. I saw her still black form in the middle of the stall. "She's dead!" I cried and that got me running all over again. Crying and whimpering wanting this storm to end. I was wet and cold and I wanted my Mommy!

I could feel her touch my hot skin but I could not say or do anything, I was locked in my body. My breathing dropped more, I could hear the squeals of my son, the voices of the humans, poking and prodding the cool touch of the rag against my burning flesh, I hated this I could hear and feel it all but I could not make myself wake up.
Time lapse
My colt could not come and be with me, I was still much to weak to do much of anything besides lay on the stall floor and have Stevie feed me. I had tried standing but had fallen right away, my body was still healing from the poisons damage. The vet thought that I would be able to be ridden again but only time would tell. For now I was curled up in the corner, my head up and my nostrils twitching as the wind blew into my stall, rustling my forelock. My eyes were closed, breathing normal I was fine I had made it threw the worst part the poison having been removed from my body but the effect was clearly evident. I snorted and whickered softly, hearing my sons soft laughter as he chased after his father, I wished I was out there to see it, Stevie had told me he was doing good with the bottle and he was growing each day. My ears flicked to catch the sounds of boots on the concrete.

"Hey girl. I have someone you might want to see." I said softly. Storm danced beside me, he was still not used to the lead rope or being lead. I put him in the stall with her taking off the lead rope. "There you two can be together while I get a bottle ready for Storm." I said and then walked off.
"Mommy!" I cried. I had still thought she was dead after that night. I had cried myself to sleep and then in the morning the put me out with my Dad. I had still been upset that morning but Dad had soon found ways to amuse me. I had just fineshed chasing him around. It was fun but I still thought about Mom. Stevie always took me out in the evenings teaching me new things. I Walked over to where my mom laid and folded my long legs next to her in the cruve of her next. "I thought you were dead." I said softly. I laid my head on her neck, just happy to be with her again.

I whickered softly when my son came in, a smile across my features after Stevie had left to get a bottle ready, my have you grown. I spoke softly as he laid down next me, I laughed softly my son I could never leave you, mommies just very sick and right now im healing, so I need you to be good for your father. I smiled and laid my head down, so it was more comfortable for him. How I had missed him so much, I have missed you so much, I have not seen your father in awhile how is he doing? She spoke softly turning her head and grooming along his neck, his foal tuff of a mane, she nuzzled him softly. She was enjoying the time she got with him, however she knew he would have to leave again.

"He's fine. Daddy likes to run a lot like me! We run around the pasture everyday together. Stevie's been teaching me things too. Like how to walk beside her when a lead rope is clipped to my halter, how to stop when I'm told too. Sometimes she ties me to a fence post and let's me stand there for a long time. She tells me it will build my paitence for when I have to stand in a stall or trailer. Sometimes when I'm standing there she'll groom me with a soft brush or cloth. It feels really good. I like her. She's really kind and gentle." I sighed and relaxed as Mommy groomed me. I tried doing the same for her though I was a little bit more clumsy and akeward with my movements. I knew that I would have to leave again soon but I didn't want too. I pricked my ears listening for the approach of foot steps.
