700 dollars for her and fearful with humans at first!
The bay mare found comfort in the trailer, no humans surrounded her and it was peaceful. As they neared the sale barns as far as she could tell that is where she was going, the noise got louder and she began to become nervous. The trailer came to a complete stop and the gate was lowered, her handler cooed soft words to her to keep her from freaking out at the number of humans who happened to be here, she backed out with ease and he took her to a quiet spot, with no humans. He led her into a stall and stroked her face, she had known and learned to trust this human but all others were scary. He un clipped the led and walked out shutting the door behind him, she instantly went to the back of her stall. Her old handler left a note on her stall they were not going to sell her for much and he wanted all others to known that she was fearful of humans at first. Lady settled into her stall watching as some peered into her stall and others just simply walked by, it upset her to know that no one saw the true her. She let a little call leave her kissers as the humans slowly disappeared from this section. All the horses were gone as well except for two a gelding and a stallion but she chose to ignore them she turned her rump to face the stall door all she could do was wait.

Why was she here? She could not afford a horse, no matter how much. All the horses that were probably cheap enough for her were senile. Rachael sighed as the smell of the horse filled her nostrils again. It was something that she missed terribly. First she needed a job, then she could get a horse. It would probably be a cheap one, but who cares right? A horse is a horse of course of course. She watched as prices were haggled, prospective buyers checked the horses out, wanting to make sure that everything was a-ok before they made the purchase. Although some may think these beasts are just pieces of flesh, they weren't. But some will just never learn. Wow, an empty stall? She passed by it before glancing in, noticing a mare all the way at the back. What, being the center of attention isn't your forte? She asked, not expecting an answer back. She leaned against the stall door, calm, having just skimmed over the note. She eyed the mare, looking at her good conformation. Well, according to her rough estimate, of course. Rachael really didn't care about things like that. A good horse could be in any shape and they would be fine.

Comfort was soon found in the stall, as lady let a content sigh go. After all if she made it seem as though no one was in here then no one looked at her. She shook her crown, sending her ebony mane in lots of different directions, out of the two years she had lived she had only raced once and won despite all odds. But at the same time she could be quite a calm horse one who some would think failed as a race horse. Lady herd a voice behind her and turned to look at the human, puzzlement was held in her eyes, how could she have not herd the women approaching? She decided that this particular human did not seem to be mean, so she turned around and walked slowly over to her, still a tad nervous. She stuck her head over the stall and checked to be sure she had made a good judgment. You could see the small star under her forelock, she nudged the human before looking at her. Maybe humans were not all bad?

She watched as the bay mare came toward her and a small smile spread across her face. She missed horses, but she had to get away from home too. It had been a sacrifice, but as long as she worked, she could keep a horse. Why hello there. She whispered, holding her hand out a little. She did not want to touch the mare just yet unless she looked like she was ready for a human hand to pet her. According to the note, she was afraid of humans and she didn't want to barrage her with too much at once. So, what's your name? She asked conversationally, as if she would receive an answer from her. Other people milled around, some looking at the horse that now popped her head out like the rest of them. But they wouldn't come over, no, it was against buyer etiquette, somebody was already looking at her.

Lady touched the woman’s hand, hearing as she spoke again. Her words were soft and not any were near harsh and she liked that. Rustling from the stallions stall made her turn her head toward it, she still wore her halter and the plat on the side had her name written on it, it simply just said Texas Affair and then in smaller print under it they had wrote what they called her around the barn, which happened to be Lady. The mare turned back now seeing the stallion being led down the aisle and yet again a new horse being led in. She nudged the women’s hand and blew warm air out upon it. She felt at easy with this human, which was weird for her. Others were now looking over the woman’s shoulder from a far of course trying to get a look at her, Lady’s ears twitched nervously as the attention seemed to be on her for a moment before it shifted to a gray that had just arrived. Lady snorted before nosing around looking for a treat.

She reached her hand slowly, stroking her cheek. She looked over momentarily, watching as the horses switched. One was sold, the other ready to be shown off. Wasn't that how it always was? Seemed like it at least. People bartering for flesh. Rae looked around at all the people before looking back up at, oh so her name is Lady, Lady. She felt this horse now become nosy, as if looking for something. Sorry darlin', I don't have any treats today. She looked around, seeing if there was anyone that she could talk to about this mare. She wanted her bad, real bad. And even if it would make her broke, at least she would be happy. She'd find a way of feeding her, even if it meant sleeping in her stall with her. Whatever it would take.

The man returned noting a women looking at the horse, she’s quite a nice horse once she knows you and it seems as though she’s taking a liking to you. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a mint, She reached out lipping at before taking it and chewing contently, We are willing to take the best offer on her as long as she goes to a good home, our little rescue group saved her from a horrible situation. The man finished speaking, it was true all they wanted was to see the mare go to a good home and be able to have the things she had not. Lady bobbed her head as she finished the last of her treat, knowing that her old handler was talking about her, maybe she was going to go with this new human, she really liked her, Lady nudged the women again not looking for a treat but hopefully some more attention from her.

Rachael turned toward the man, listening to him. She wanted to have this are, yes she did. However, she had to figure out how much she wanted her to how much was in her pocket. She sighed as she scratched Lady's neck. She put a hand in her pocket, this really was a tough decision. 500? I can't really afford anymore... She said, thinking about the little bit that she had. But she was worth it, and Rae knew that. However, she had to wait for the man to tell her if that was a good enough price or not. Kicking and screaming came from a stall down the way, and she watched, a little distracted as she watched the owner struggle to keep that horse under control. Nobody would probably want that horse, unfortunately. She turned back toward the man and Lady.

The man listened to the women, he could tell her wanted this horse. He smiled I will sell her to you for 400. Yes that was good to him he knew the mare was going to a good home and that’s all he really wanted, So do we have a deal? Lady pawed at the floor her head turned listening to the screaming, a call of her own was sent down to the horse, the horse was loud and the owner did not know how to calm it. She snorted and turned away from the horse, moving around her stall, she wanted out. It was starting to become a suffocation to be in here. She stopped in the center of her stall before going back to the stall door and beginning to play with the latch, letting them know she wanted out.

Deal. She said with a triumphant smile on her face. Exhilarated, she pulled out her wallet and counted out the twenties to four hundred. Sadly, it would be all in that, but that was all she had. She listened to the clanking of the latch and looked over at her. She handed him the twenties and then patted her cheek again. Soon enough I'll have you in a better place, Lady. I'll be right back. Quickly she took off, springing excitedly between the people while trying to not spook the horses. She came back within a few minutes, a lead line in her hand. She opened the stall door slowly, enough to fit her small body into. Hey girly, we're leaving this place. We're gonna go to a better place. She clipped the lead line on and opened the stall door wide, leading her out. She hoped she wouldn't spook with all the people around.

As she said deal the man knew the mare would be happy. She handed him the money which it did not matter to him how it came, seeing the money went back into saving more horses, he produced a folder and handed to her, this is everything we could find on her, you will not be sorry that you bought her she will make you a wonderful horse. He smiled nodded his head and left. Lady listened to the women’s soft words before she left but soon returned with a lead rope, she made her way in and once again spoke, Lady knew that there was no needed to be scared with her around. As the lead rope was clipped on she opened the door wide and led her out, the mare lowered her head into a relaxed way and made sure to ignore the noise around her, as she quietly followed her new owner.

That's it pretty girl. She stated as she stopped to allow a stallion and his owner to pass. She scratched her neck. Rachael couldn't believe it, her first horse ever. Before she just rode others' horses but now here was her own and she was so happy that it was Lady. She seemed like a very sweet horse, even if she was a little afraid of horses. But now, she had to figure out where she was going with her, and getting a job, living somewhere. There was so much to figure out with an impulse buy like this. No, not a buy. An investment. A lifetime investment. A lifetime of happiness. She quickly strode out of the claustrophobic barn and into the sunshine which beat down on her with a new warmth. Parked was her beat up truck and the beat up trailer that was given to her buy the owner of the old barn she worked out. It needed some maintenance, which she would figure out later. She opened up the back and stepped in, pulling just a tiny bit to get Lady to follow her in.

She followed quietly behind stopping when her new owner did and going only when she did. Soon they made it out into the open, the sun hit on her bay coat as they walked to the trailer, a soft snort was released as she waited for her owner to lower the door and walk in, she felt a little tug and walked into the trailer she was use to this, trailers did not frighten her no they gave her comfort. She nudged the women and looked at her, waiting for what was to come next, she quivered with excitement wondering what her new home was going to look like another quiver was given at the thought of a new life. Today everything was exciting.

Good girl. I'm sorry I have no treats. Rachael scratched her neck again before running her hand down her body as she quickly got out of the trailer, putting the partition up behind her. She locked the door but kept the window open both on the trailer door and right in front of her head. The bars were up so Lady could not put her head out though. The past is behind us Lady, our new life awaits us. She muttered to the mare as she got into the truck. Now, to get this thing going. It clunked a little bit, as if it did not want to do anything before finally rumbling to life. She gassed it a little to make sure it wouldn't stall out before pulling out slowly, not wanting to jostle the mare. She was excited and nervous. Excited about the prospect of the future. Nervous about what everything that had to happen.
